IT IS NOT TOO LATE! Sign Up for the Virtual Race and Support Fox Valley Lutheran Homes

COVID-19 virus has had a major impact in our community. Many of us, including the tenants at Fox Valley Lutheran Homes live in isolation and loneliness.

During the pandemic, we have cancelled all our fundraising events. In order to raise funds to continue our ministry to older adults, we are hosting a Virtual Race. Our virtual race does not have a specific location or starting time. You can run or walk in your own neighborhood or on a treadmill anytime between October 2 and when the race ends on October 18. After you have finished, you can upload your results so that you are recognized for your accomplishment. Our race partner, ITS Your Race, is offering a FREE app that you can download for tracking your walk or run. It’s a great way to stay active while still observing social distancing guidelines and support our cause.

The donation for each registration is $10 and we receive the entire amount (please note that there is an additional $3.25 registration service fee). You can also choose to purchase a souvenir package that includes a t-shirt, race bib, and wristband showing your support. Even if you do not want to walk or run, you can still sign up and support our ministry.
New Announcement Board

Building Manager Brian Krauss recently suggested that we add an electronic announcement board near the tenant mailboxes. Maintenance Manager Dick Mahloch (pictured) completed the installation and tenant Jim Jensen applied his technological savvy to get it up and running. Announcements, birthdays, interesting facts and trivia are updated on this board daily by Jim. Next time you visit us, check it out! Many thanks to everyone that made this improvement possible.
Thanks to Thrivent and Their Policy Holders!
The Ministry of Fox Valley Lutheran Homes is able to continue to serve our tenants because of generous supporters. Are you a Thrivent policy holder that would like to support the social and/or education programs we offer to our tenants? You can apply for an Action Team grant to support a special need, project or activity right here at Linwood Place. Thrivent offers financial resources to increase the impact of the project. If you need more information about Thrivent's Action Team grants or would like help getting your request processed online click here to email our Executive Director, Lynn Ann Clausing Rusch. Featured below is an example of recent activities supported through Action Team grants.
Our Mission and Ministry Team has received an Action Team grant thanks to Thrivent policy holder and board member Pastor Leon Knitt to provide our tenants special "Thinking of You" treats during the next few months. In September our tenants received a Dilly Bar treat and we celebrated the first day of fall with our board members Tommy Meltz and Pastor Leon delivering special cookies made by Sweet Treats Candies & Sweets in Kaukauna. COVID has made life challenging and we want our tenants to know that we appreciate them.
First English Interns Continue to Impact Our Tenant's Lives

First English Lutheran Church supports the Summer Intern Ministry for young adults ages 18-25.
The vision of this ministry is to provide opportunities for emerging men and women to gain a deeper understanding of service in the community and vocation in the church. In past years, the interns have been involved with many social activities in Linwood Commons. Our tenants looked forward to the weekly visits of the interns. Due to COVID-19 and the need to social distance, we have become creative in how our tenants can build relationships and connect with this amazing group of young people. Tenant Gwen Klein has written about her 2020 COVID-19 "Buddy" experience with two of these amazing young adults.

"My husband and I met with First English Interns, Kent Van Beck and Anna Schmidt on Thursdays this summer as part of the intergenerational project. What a positive experience! We met across the street from Fox Valley Lutheran Homes at Linwood Park at the picnic tables, each bringing our own drinks and snacks. We were careful to social distance and wear our masks.
We became acquainted, shared experiences and enjoyed each other’s company. What delightful young people! One time they even brought a guitar and sang for us. Thank you Anna and Kent!  We wish you the very best."

Check Out Our New Autumn Blaze Maple Tree!

One of our shade trees on the west side of the building had to be removed. Thanks to the generosity of anonymous tenant donors, we were able to purchase a beautiful Autumn Blaze Maple. Special thanks to one of our property committee members for removing the old tree and planting the new one! We are looking forward to watching this beautiful tree turn colors very soon!
Grounds Beautification

Thanks to Karen & Dale Volkman (left in photo) and First English Lutheran Church - Appleton, WI for donating and spreading mulch in front our our apartments. We are blessed by your support! Special thanks to Deni Kuchler, Neighborhood Network Coordinator for First English for organizing this support. Thanks to Jeffrey Rusch (our Executive Director's husband) for continuing to support and help FVLH with many projects.
"We Are Loved"

Trinity Lutheran Church members brightened our tenant’s day as part of their "God’s Work, Our Hands" project. The beautiful pumpkins along with the reminder that “You are Loved” were delivered to our tenants by Trinity’s Office Manager Sarah Bultman (right in photo) and our VIP volunteer Nancy Mader.
Staying Healthy at FVLH

Tenants and staff received their flu shots this week in Linwood Commons thanks to Drazer and Nancy from Walgreens. Thanks to our care coordinator Cheryl Mahloch for organizing the clinic. Can you see the happy smiles behind our masks? No tears were shed during this event.
Thank You To Care Patrol

Care Patrol of the Fox Cites recently hosted a drive-in movie night for the community! We were excited to be gifted their remaining goodie bags for distribution to our tenants. We look forward to meeting the Care Patrol staff in person when we receive the COVID "All Clear" Notice. Thank you to our super volunteer Nancy Mader (right in photo) and our tenant Linda for distributing the bags.
