Final Days of School
This week marks the end of the 2017-18 school year, with the last day for students being an early release this Friday, June 15. That means students will be released three hours earlier than normal; lunch will still be served. Thanks to all students, staff, and parents for your hard work, dedication, and involvement throughout the year!

Summer Shutdown Reminder
As we transition into summer, we ask for staff members' help in conserving resources across the district. Summer break is a great time to save energy, especially if we are able to effectively shut down our buildings and take a few extra steps that are outlined here
Earn Your Administrator License
The Confederation of Oregon School Administrators and Concordia University Chicago have developed a rigorous online program that offers preliminary and professional administrator licensure, as well as the opportunity to pursue a master's or doctorate degree. Deadline to register for the 2018 PreAL cohort is Aug. 1; classes start Aug. 27.

'Hot News' Summer Break
"Hot News" will take a summer break, along with the students, and will return on Monday, Aug. 27 - just in time to share important back-to-school information! Please stay tuned to our website and social media pages over the summer months for all the latest bond and other updates, or feel free to contact us if you have any questions: [email protected], 503-844-1500.

June Edition of OSP Connected
If you have not yet read the June edition of OSP Connected, please take a few moments to do so! This month's issue is chock-full of great information about the recently-completed survey of 4,000 secondary students and their observations about what is and isn't working for them in our system, tips on building relationships as you close out the school year, an update on our bond work, and more! There's even a link to a voluntary survey about equity. You can find the June edition and all past issues of OSP Connected on the Staff News page of our website.

Hillsboro 2035 Community Celebration
The annual Hillsboro 2035 Community Celebration is taking place during the first Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market of the season on Tuesday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on the Civic Center Plaza. The event gives community members an opportunity to learn more about the progress Lead Partner organizations have made in fulfilling the action items outlined in our Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan. And with a theme of Pirate Palooza, it will also provide lots of fun and engaging activities for children.

Summer Lunch Sites
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, HSD is once again providing free lunches throughout the summer for youth ages 1-18. The meal distribution sites are at W.L. Henry Elementary School, Shadywood Park, Walnut Street Park, Bicentennial Park, McKinney Elementary School, Shute Park, Montebello Apartments, and Sunset Garden Apartments. Lunches will be served each weekday* between June 20 and Aug. 17, with no service on Wednesday, July 4.

*Note that some sites have a different schedule; please see the flyer for details.

Brookwood Elementary Alumni Encouraged to Submit Photos
camera.jpg
With the demolition of the current Brookwood Elementary School on the horizon (expected to take place in the summer of 2020), we'd like to create a database of photos and memories from students who attended the school over its 65-year history. If you have things you'd like to share, please send them to Bond Marketing Specialist Jane Siguenza via e-mail or postal mail: 3083 NE 49th Place, #201, Hillsboro, OR 97124.

Stay up to date on the Brookwood construction and other projects at hillsboro-bond.org.

New Facility Scheduling System Launches July 1

HSD has partnered with Facilitron to manage the scheduling of our facilities and conference rooms starting July 1. Those wishing to use a school or District facility must create a Facilitron account and submit their request online. Facilitron will assist with the set-up of organizations and user accounts and will verify non-profit status, if applicable. Facilitron will also collect payment and proof of insurance on the District's behalf. Additional information can be found on our website.

Joint Committee on Student Success Community Meetings
On January 4, House Speaker Tina Kotek and Senate President Peter Courtney announced the creation of a Joint Committee on Student Success - a bipartisan, bicameral committee formed to explore best practices employed in Oregon schools, create a plan for improved student success, and develop a budget proposal that would adequately fund high-quality K-12 education across the state. Part of the committee's work involves holding a series of public hearings across the state to gather feedback. Two of those meetings will be close by in the coming months:
  • July 11 at the Arts & Communication Magnet Academy, 11375 Southwest Center St., Beaverton
  • Sept. 27 at James Madison High School, 2735 NE 82nd Ave., Portland.
Both meetings will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with testimony sign-up sheets available at 6:30 p.m. Testimony may also be submitted to [email protected].

Administrative Changes for 2018-19

Superintendent Scott has recently announced a number of administrative changes for the 2018-19 school year, including new principals: Dave Vickery - Hilhi; Christy Walters - Witch Hazel; Yolanda Coleman - Quatama; and Deborah Hunt - Indian Hills. Click here to read these announcements and more for the upcoming school year.

Summer Activities
There are lots of fun and educational activities in which you and your students can participate this summer!
  • The Outpost is a free summer drop-in activity and lunch program at Shute Park, Shadywood Park, and McKinney Park.
  • Summer reading programs through the Hillsboro Library are also free and are a great way to keep learning over the summer and to earn a free book!
  • If you're interested in summer camps, check out the wide variety of options available through Hillsboro Parks & Recreation.
  • For family fun, plan to attend the annual K-9 Trials on June 30 at Hare Field, and the 4th of July Parade in downtown Hillsboro.
  • Want to exercise while fundraising for a good cause? Consider the C.A.T. Walk, raising money for a new mobile mammography van, taking place on July 4 just before the parade; and
  • The One Small Step 5K, raising money for Prader-Willi Syndrome research, taking place on July 28 at Hilhi.
Stay tuned to our website for information on more great summertime activities!
