The first drive up the long gravel road to Evesham Wood to meet Russ Raney was a fortuitous one for Erin Nuccio- maybe even clandestine. It just felt right. Upon first meeting Russ Raney, it became clear that we shared a philosophy. Since that first meeting he has become a mentor and a good friend. He graciously allowed me to apprentice under him and to make my first wines with him. This was the birth of Haden Fig. Even now, as I have found myself as the proprietor of Evesham Wood, Haden Fig has a special place in my heart. A place for me to express myself.
We believe the best wine begins with the best fruit. From the best place. Organic. Biodynamic. Sustainable. Native. Haden Fig is a product of this approach. To express the site upon which they were grown and reflect the season in which they were grown. Complex and balanced wines from Oregon's Willamette Valley.
This year's Willamette Valley blend is comprised of one-third each of Cancilla Vineyard, Croft Vineyard, and Bjornson Vineyard. Though 2015 was a warm growing season, the autumn brought a slight chill. The WV bottling is showing tremendous restraint and complexity. Dark fruit is mixed with bright cherry and raspberry, sweet damp forest and juicy acidity.
