Peridot & Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra present:

Over the Moon

Saturday, April 27, 2019
Lawrence Chapel
7:00 pm
Enjoy a wonderful night of music as Peridot records a live EP with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Lawrence Academy Girls Choir.

Net proceeds from the concert and recording sales will benefit The Trina Fund which was established in 2009 by Hillary Reynolds' mother, Trina Reynolds. After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, Trina wanted to make sure that transportation was not a barrier to treatment, or a second opinion, for other women with breast cancer.
Trina's legacy has granted over $55,000 to 138 women to assist with transportation to accredited cancer treatment centers throughout the U.S. The Women's Fund is proud to help make Trina's wishes a reality.

Check out Peridot's new release of "Fleeting" and then come see it performed live on April 27!

Grant Spotlight: Fox Valley Technical College Foundation
Submitted by: Lindsey Fox
Two-Generational Family Strengthening: $10,000
The Two-Generational Family Strengthening Program at Fox Valley Technical College aims to build economic security for low-income women and their young children. The group of twelve participants are native Spanish speakers, and are learning English while simultaneously developing and enhancing computer, digital, and financial literacy skills.

As they progress through the program, the women are gaining confidence and feeling less intimidated by technology. That confidence is translating to new beginnings, like searching for jobs online and using better strategies for managing finances.

“They’re excited about teaching their children good financial habits,” shares Lauren Anderson, a lead instructor for the Family Strengthening Program. While the mothers search for jobs, manage finances, and learn a new language, their children study and adapt habits that will impact their own lives down the road.

The group’s culminating project entails using Microsoft Word to write about their personal experiences. “In the beginning, they weren’t excited about the final project,” says Anderson, “They weren’t confident in their skills and they didn’t know what story would be worth telling.” Now the mothers are using technology with increasing confidence and putting together complex statements in English. Once afraid to share their stories, these twelve women are starting to realize how significant their voices truly are.
"These women are true role models for their families as they navigate finding a job, managing household finances, and raising children — all in a different language and culture."
~ Lauren Anderson, FVTC Lead Instructor
