To neighbors and friends, Ward 2 and elsewhere,

My City Council newsletters usually cover multiple topics. This time, I'm writing about just one thing: my enthusiasm for Jo Comerford's campaign to be our next State Senator for the Hampshire Franklin and Worcester District.

It takes someone very special to follow the great work that Stan Rosenberg has done for us over the years. I'm convinced Jo is that special person.

You're invited to meet Jo at a house party Sunday, June 17 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the home of Mark and Catherine Ames, 207 Crescent St., Northampton, MA. Please RSVP at

I have known Jo for many years and admire and respect her greatly. She did wonderful and important work at American Friends Service Committee and at the Western Mass. Food Bank. I had an opportunity to work closely with Jo when she served as Executive Director at National Priorities Project. As NPP Board chair during that time I saw close-up how Jo combines a clear progressive vision grounded in a deep grasp of policy with a strategic mind that produces results.

Jo is a natural coalition builder, always looking for opportunities for broader inclusion. She's a big tent progressive, who gets things done by uniting, not dividing. Her energy is consistently positive and inspiring. Most of all she's a truly kind and caring person. I know she would do an outstanding job of representing the values and needs of Northampton, and the rest of the district, in the Massachusetts Senate.

I believe Jo Comerford is uniquely qualified to serve our district well. I can't think of a stronger candidate and could not be more excited about the fact that she is running.

Please see the card below to learn more about her. She is a write-in candidate so spreading the word is crucial and timely!

Sincerely,
