Those April showers bring May flowers, but what do May showers bring? We've sure had plenty of them. Finally, the cold winter is over and we are now in the season of renewal. We've had a busy few months at Enable and we would like to share some of the highlights with you in our Spring edition of

On April 26th, Enable held its 30th Anniversary Masquerade Casino Gala at Mercer Oaks in West Windsor. The evening was filled with fun and excitement as guests wore extravagant masks and enjoyed the thrill of Blackjack, Craps and Roulette, all while raising funds to support the programs and services provided by Enable. Enable All Stars
For the past nine years, the students at the Hun School in Princeton have thrown an incredible themed party for Enable consumers.This year, the students created an All Star Gala where each guest was invited to come dressed in their favorite sports team attire or favorite color. Nearly 80 consumers who reside in an Enable group home attended the party. Everyone had a fantastic time dancing, eating and enjoying each other's company. A big hit was the Smoothie Station. Lynn McNulty, Director of Service Learning at Hun, says, "
the Enable dance has become a community event that students and teachers alike look forward to. The students enjoy planning the event from picking the theme, decorations and invitations, to, most importantly, welcoming Enable consumers to campus for an evening of fun. They love the opportunity to dance, lip sync, do the photo booth or just enjoy a conversation with Enable's consumers and staff."
We are so very grateful for the Hun School's ongoing commitment to Enable. Our consumers look forward to this event each year.

Our Shining Star
 Meet Devon, this year's NJACP (New Jersey Association of Community Providers)
Community STARS Award recipient.
This award honors people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who overcome obstacles to live an active engaged life in the community. Devon resides in an Enable group home and attends our day program. He
is very hands on in his home and he contributes with putting things away in their proper place and taking out the garbage.
He loves encouraging his roommates to help around the house and to work together.
Devon is always eager and willing to help staff and other consumers with projects and activities while at the day program.
Devon is truly an inspiration and has made leaps and bounds in his development.Congratulations Devon! You are most definitely a STAR!

Over the past few months, so many wonderful individuals and corporations volunteered with Enable including Black Rock, Immaculata High School, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, NRG Energy, and our ongoing volunteer partner Bloomberg. Thank you all so much for your support and making a difference in the lives of the men and women we serve.

21 volunteers from Black Rock work on a Behavior Management project. We are thrilled to have received a $1,260 contribution through Black Rock's volunteer program.

April is Autism Awareness Month. Enable staff participated in promoting awareness by wearing blue on April 2nd for World Autism Awareness Day. We also set up information tables at area Shop Rites and consumers volunteered to bag groceries.
Thank you Shop Rite of Lawrenceville, Hamilton Square and Somerville. It was very heartwarming to see the positive interaction between customers, store employees our consumers.

In July and August,
Princeton Center for Health & Yoga, located at 88 Orchard Rd,Skillman,NJ, will hold community classes where they are asking for donations which will benefit Enable. Community Classes are held Monday - Friday from 4:15 - 5:30 pm. Suggested donation is $8.00 per class. All levels welcome. To learn more, or to register for a class, visit

Having Fun at Enable
Ice Cream Social
To celebrate spring and our outstanding staff, Enable held an Ice Cream Social. The party provided staff a chance to relax and enjoy each other's company as well as some delicious ice cream with all the fixings!
Victorian Day Program
Consumers at our Victorian Day Program in Flemington worked on St. Patrick's Day crafts. Mindy Golder, Manager for this program, had this to say "Words cannot even begin to describe how amazing today has been. Seeing the consumers eyes light up and get so excited makes everything so worth it." Victorian provides services to individuals with significant medical needs.

Coalition for a DSP Living Wage
For the past year, The
Coalition for a DSP Living Wage
has been lobbying to increase state funding so that Direct Support Professionals can be paid a living wage. DSP work is not minimum wage work.
Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of all agencies who committed themselves to enriching the lives of those with disabilities. Providing direct care for society's most vulnerable population requires staff who are caring, competent and compassionate.Enable has participated in the online movement with posts and videos on Social Media and on May 13th, a rally was held at the State House to send a message to the Governor and the Legislature that $54 million is needed in FY 2020 to secure a competitive DSP starting wage that is 25% above minimum wage. Meet the Newest Members of our Team
Kerri Wright, MPA - Vice President,
Human Resources
Kerri comes to Enable with more than 20 years of experience in Human Resources. Most recently, she served as Director of Human Resources at a Catholic organization that provides long term care services for two skilled nursing facilities. Kerri is excited to join the Enable team. Her first order of business is to focus on recruitment so that we are 100% staffed. She is looking forward to assisting in the growth of the organization and helping to make Enable the premiere DDD organization in the State of NJ. Kerri resides in Somerset County and loves spending time with her family.
