Fighting COVID-19
Resources for Plainfield Residents
Greetings!

With the end of summer and the new school year approaching, it appears that our new normal will continue with many of us working from home and learning virtually while we deal wiith the challenges and emotions caused by the pandemic. But the more we fight, the more we realize that we are stronger and more resilient than we had originally given ourselves credit for. Our biggest concern is the health, safety and welfare of our families.

The spread of the virus in our city is continuing to slow, and I believe it is due to our community following the recommended guidelines and protocols. I want to thank all Plainfield residents for their efforts.

At City Hall we’re maintaining essential services while taking steps to safeguard the health of our employees. We want to encourage you to try and complete your business online as much as possible. If you can’t find what you want online, please give us a call before coming to City Hall, chances are we can get the information to you and save you the trip.
While this crisis lasts, we will be sharing this resource edition of our newsletter every Wednesday. Please stay tuned and share this information with your loved ones and friends.

Stay safe and may God continue to bless you.

Creating One Plainfield. One Future.
Mayor Adrian O. Mapp
Queridos amigos y vecinos,

Sinceramente,

Adrian O. Mapp, Alcalde

Partnership with Evangel Church | Just Text HOPE!
Since many of our residents may be without food and other necessary supplies during this crisis, we have partnered with Evangel Church to have boxes of hope delivered to our vulnerable residents in our community.

Coronavirus Online Therapy for Essential Workers
Coronavirus Online Therapy is an initiative of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Therapy Aid Coalition. We are a collective of experienced, licensed private practice therapists across the country, that would like to be of service to essential workers at this time. We have therapists in the 50 US States* who have agreed to offer short-term online therapy at free and reduced costs. We do not profit from this connection service, or charge for use of this platform. Those who search for probono therapists pay nothing. Those who search for low-fee therapists pay the private practice clinician directly. This site and service is 100% volunteer-created and run.
In a Time of Crisis, Play is the Work of a Child
Play is critical to development. Yet, when we get stressed or scared as adults, play may be the last thing we consider engaging in with our kids. Leaving our children to figure it all out for themselves is a potential recipe for distraught emotions, misguided behavior, as well as family conflict, in the end. Author and parenting expert, L.R. Knost, wisely instructed, “When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it's our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.”
Not sure where to begin? Here are some play ideas to employ while we’re all homebound.

Updated Quarantine Advisory Issued for Individuals Traveling to New Jersey, Bringing New Total to 30 States and Territories
30 States and Territories Include Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia

TRENTON – Governor Phil Murphy today advised individuals traveling to New Jersey from states or territories with significant community spread of COVID-19 to quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state or territory. The updated advisory includes one additional territory, Puerto Rico— with California, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, and Ohio removed from the list, bringing the total to 30 states and territories. The travel advisory applies to any person arriving from a state or territory with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a state with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

As of Tuesday, September 14, there are currently 30 states and territories that meet the criteria stated above: Alabama; Alaska; Arkansas; Delaware; Florida; Georgia; Guam; Iowa; Idaho; Indiana; Illinois; Kansas; Kentucky; Louisiana; Missouri; Mississippi; Montana; North Carolina; North Dakota; Nebraska; Oklahoma; Puerto Rico; South Carolina; South Dakota; Tennessee; Texas; Utah; Virginia; Wisconsin; and West Virginia.

“It is the responsibility of New Jerseyans and visitors to our state to protect others from the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Murphy. “It remains critically important for anyone arriving to New Jersey from these 30 states and territories to get tested for COVID-19 and self-quarantine for 14 days.”

Travelers and those residents who are returning from impacted states should self-quarantine at their home, hotel, or other temporary lodging. Individuals should leave the place of self-quarantine only to seek medical care/treatment or to obtain food and other essential items.
It is expected that individuals will follow the public health advisory to self-quarantine. The list of states will be updated on a rolling basis and is accessible here.
