Thursday night our gymnasium was alive with the promising talents of our students! On display throughout the gym were their beautiful artistic renderings centered around the theme of Creation. And center stage were our talented musical students entertaining the audience with uplifting vocal and instrumental songs. I am so happy that so many were able to come out to support our students in this wonderful culminating experience!

Planning ahead, we're looking for lots of volunteers...Carnival, Field Days, Corn Hole Tournament....many the hands make light work! And, the more the merrier!  And speaking of the Cornhole Tournament, there are only 3 weeks left to register!  Get your team together and see link below to register.

Enjoy your, hopefully, sunny weekend.

Peace and God's blessing,

Ann E. Dougal

5th Grade Students Learn About Jamestown

Did you know that Jamestown, VA was founded on May 14, 1607? It is no coincidence that the fifth grade students are currently reading the novel Blood on the River, which is about the beginning of this very settlement!

Students have read the first few chapters learning of the gentlemen leaving from London, England, with few commoners and peasants aboard three ships traveling to the New World. In the story, students will learn of the struggles of too many people who aren't willing to work and have relied on others to do for them. They will also see what happens when a large group learns to work together and help each other after many trials and tribulations and how all of society is affected by the actions of others.

Students have creatively recreated Jamestown by building models of this first North American settlement. They worked in groups and had to develop a plan on how to design their settlement and delegate tasks to group members in order to complete the project.

We even added a bit of math into our work. Students had to figure out how much older Jamestown is than one of our students whose birthday is the same day! (401 years older!)

The Feast Of Our Lady Of Fatima

Thank you to Fr. Barrent Pease from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Northampton for celebrating Mass with us today. Fr. Barrent spoke about the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima where Blesssed Virgin Mary appeared to three young shepherd children in 1917. The vision asked them to pray the rosary, engage in adoration and to do penance.

We also thank our 2nd grade students who did a great job as readers!

 SchoolsNEXT

SchoolsNEXT National Competition - Bring It On!

The 2019 Schools NEXT winning competition team of Brenna, Sarah, and Liam, digitally presented to the National Jury this morning via Skype.  Jury members from across the nation met via a digital conference to listen to our students present their winning project.  Brenna, Sarah, and Liam fielded questions from representatives of the EPA, Flooring Manufacturers, Architects, and various other school building professionals.  They were asked very thought provoking questions and answered them with poise and grace.  We are all proud of their accomplishments and wish them luck as we await the results.

 Art and Music

An Evening of Art and Music

Who knew there was such amazing talent at SMA?  If you were at the Evening of Art and Music you quickly found out!  Fantastic, creative artwork was on display throughout the gymnasium and every student contributed something. That's 470 pieces to view!

And the music portion of the evening featured another group of abundantly talented students from the middle level choir, all recorder players, honors recorders, honors choir and a special solo from each of the five graduating 8th grade girls.  And wow...did we hear some singing!

Yet another reason why SMA students make the faculty, staff and especially their parents very proud!

 New Spirit

Grade 7 Participates In New Spirit

Our 7th grade students had a both fun and meaningful day today as they participated in their New Spirit retreat. The day is designed to help students enjoy a positive, faith-filled day. Thank you to Pat Sears and Barry Kingston for always providing our students with a eventful and memorable day!

Advancement

Hats Off To PeoplesBank!

We would like to thank PeoplesBank for their generous grant in the amount of $2,500 to help support the installation of our audio video sound system in the gymnasium. Our goal is to transform the gym into a functioning multi-purpose room by installing a quality audio video sound system that will accommodate the many needs of our program. We are grateful to PeoplesBank for their commitment to our mission and their desire to partner with us.

Food For Thought

"Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections, but instantly set about remedying them, every day begin the task anew."
