Now, as there are more and more Austrian wines entering the US market, I like to point out a second and very important logo to look for as my stamp: "kwselection.com". I have been importing Austrian wines now for almost 20 years and when picking a wine from one of my producers you can be certain that you are picking a "Quality" wine. A wine from a family I have been working with for many years. A family which respects the earth and nature and their only goal is to produce the best possible quality they can get out of their vineyards. "Terroir" first..... wines with exceptional quality, produced honestly and with respect. I started importing Austrian wines with Anton Bauer in the year 2000 and the Ried Rosenberg Gruner Veltliner has been my "House Wine" ever since. We have seen many changes over the past 19 years. One of the latest is that we are working on a single vineyard classification and when you see the word "Ried" on a label it indicates a single vineyard. When it is all finished, the Rosenberg vineyard will most likely be one of the classified 1er Cru vineyards.

Grüner Veltliner 2017

Rosenberg is one of the better-known

Grüner Veltliner vineyards in Austria.

Very aromatic, full of round fruit and balanced with crisp acidity.

The distinct soil lends a pleasant mineral and white pepper note typical of this varietal. Pairs well with a wide range of foods, including Asian cuisine and fish

with fresh herbs .

Ried Rosenberg

I t is said that the name goes back to wild roses which grew exuberantly there and that "Rosenberg" was introduced during the time of the minstrels (12th – 14th centuries) and characterized by the entourage associated with the poet Conrad von Vuozesprunnen (Feuersbrunn).

The "Rosenberg" vineyard site is one of the best sites in Feuersbrunn. It is situated on one of the highest areas used for wine growing on the Wagram, right below the top of the Hengstberg hill (371 m). In the north, immediately next to the site there is a forest, which on the one hand protects the site against the strong winds blowing from the north-west, and which on the other hand brings about a special micro-climate. In spite of the southern exposure a cool wind blows from the forest even during hot summers, which, compared to other sites, results in stronger temperature variations between day and night.

As a consequence, the aroma of the grapes intensifies, the wines become more structured and multi-layered. This deep loess soil with a certain percentage of clay is perfectly suited for our Grüner Veltliner vines . (Anton Bauer)
