Dear 8th grade parents,

Now that we are almost to the end of your child's middle school years, I am writing with details of the 8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony that is scheduled for Friday, June 7. This is an important event for your family and we want to make sure that you have the details you need in a timely fashion.

The ceremony will begin at 8:15 am in the Race Street Meeting House.  8th graders should be at there by no later than 7:55 am; they should report to the meeting house and check in with their advisor. Students should be dressed appropriately for a formal occasion of this importance and gravity; no shorts or athletic wear, no hats; pants that are not jeans, shirts with collars, and shoes that are not sneakers.

Parents and relatives are of course invited to the ceremony.  The meeting house is large enough to accomodate all who would like to attend, so tickets will not be needed. We will reserve seating for 8th grade families on the lower level of the meeting house, but we will need to limit that seating to immediate family. Photography and videography are not allowed in the meeting house. We will, however,  take a group photo in the courtyard after the program, and you are of course welcome to take photos at that time. I'd also like to point out that the meeting house is not air conditioned; depending on the weather, it could be quite warm.

The ceremony will end with Meeting for Worship. Afterwards, there will be a reception back at school in the Seminar Room for 8th graders and their families. 8th graders should plan to leave with their families after the reception. We should be done with the ceremony and reception by 10:30 am. I'm sure that most of you would like to plan to have lunch as a family in order to celebrate this milestone.

With warm best wishes,

Peter
