E-NEWSLETTER VOLUME 9,  ISSUE 5/ May  2019

Welcome To Our New Employees!
We are pleased to welcome our two new Community Planners, Sydney Swan and Harry Graham, to Bay-Lake RPC!

Sydney is a 2016 graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point with a double Major in Urban Planning and Regional Land Use Planning, and a minor in Sustainable Energy Technology.  Since graduating, she has worked with Washington County as a Planning and
 Parks Analyst.

Harry recently completed his Masters in Community Planning from Auburn University in Alabama. He has also completed a Masters in Anthropology and gained experience as a planning intern with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham.

Community Partnership Award
Interns have always been a vital part of the Commission and the work accomplished here. This month, Bay-Lake RPC was the recipient of the UWGB Public & Environmental Affairs (PEA) 2019 Community Partnership Award. This award recognizes an organization in the community that has shown continuous dedication to the growth and development of the department's students. As a Commission, we are honored to have received this award, and look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come!

New Housing Service!
The State has released a legislation requirement for municipalities with a population over 10,000. These communities are required to have a Housing Affordability Report and New Housing Fee report annually. Bay-Lake RPC is here to help your community create these reports, and annually update the compiled data. If you would like to learn more about this service, or have questions, please contact Madison Smith or call (920) 448-2820, ext. 106.

Opportunity Zones
Opportunity Zones provide tax benefits when investments are made.  These "zones" have financial benefits, including the ability to defer capital gains for investors. Additionally, in Opportunity Zones, the Economic Development Administration (EDA) criteria for project eligibility is met, so the zones provide an opportunity to look further into EDA funding.  Click here for Bay-Lake Opportunity Zones. For more information, contact Elizabeth Runge call (920) 448-2820, ext. 107 .

Devils River Trail
Bay-Lake RPC is working with Manitowoc County to complete a master plan for the county's portion of the Devils River Trail.   As a part of that process, we are gathering input about recreational preferences and conditions on the trail - please let us know your thoughts by responding to the survey here:  Devils River Trail Survey

Art of Water
Bay-Lake staff had the opportunity to be involved with Algoma's Art of Water, and speak about the Ahnapee River Water Trail Plan. Thank you to all the local artists and galleries! If you missed it, be sure to check out this event next year! For more information on the Ahnapee River Water Trail Plan, please contact Madison Smith  or call (920) 448-2820, ext. 106.
