Vestavia Dance Performance Company
Vestavia Dance Performance Company (VDPC) is a community of dedicated young leaders within our dance ministry that strive to perfect their talent. Company members endeavor to advance their personal dance education and contribute their best to a team. VDPC requires hard work and a high level of commitment born from a place of passion for the art of dance.

While we compete to win, our program is not solely about winning. Our mission is to nurture the improvement of our members as dancers and people by holding them to higher standards. The dancers work every day to achieve their fullest potential, which looks different for each one. We balance discipline, respect, and focus with encouragement and support.

During the 2019 season, company members successfully developed 15 different team dances and 4 solo dances. A total of 68 dancers represented VDPC locally and in Atlanta at eight competitions and three conventions that included 24 SEVEN Dance Convention, Applause Talent, Hollywood Dance Jamz, KAR (Kids Artistic Revue), Masquerade, NUVO Dance Convention, Showstopper, and VIP Dance. For more information, please contact Angel White ([email protected]).
Vestavia Hills Farmers Market
The VHUMC Farmer's Market kicked off a terrific new season yesterday. The market will be open every Wednesday from 10:00 am-1:00 pm through August 8 and is located right off of Highway 31 in Scouts Square. Mark your calendars and come see the seasonal goodies from local producers. See you next week!
Bundles of Hope Drive
There's just a few more days to help support this important mission partner in honor or in memory of your mother. Bundles of Hope provides diapers to women and families who normally could not afford them. Diapers and wipes are expensive and this group helps take the monetary burden off of the family by providing them with a blessing. Let's help make their warehouse full of blessings. Please donate diapers and wipes in one of the bins around the church by this Sunday, May 19. Bins are located outside Tyson Hall, in the main church office and at the Day School.
Ready to Join VHUMC
Please join us this Sunday, May 19, at 12:15 pm in the chapel (after the worship services) for a brief joining service. If you are interested in this, please contact Suzanne Scott-Trammell ([email protected] / 769-0136) for more information and to order lunch.

It's Senior Sunday
Come help us make this Sunday special for our 2019 High School graduates. We will honor them in the 11:00 am traditional service in the Sanctuary before they head off to their next adventure!
A Huge Thank You
A huge thank you to all our Rise Against Hunger sponsors. We could not make this event possible without the incredible support of all of our sponsors. Thank you for supporting such an important event at VHUMC.
No Sunday School Next Week
We will not have Sunday School for preschool children, elementary children, or students (6th-12th grade) on Sunday, May 26. We invite you and your family to attend the Joint Sunday School lesson about our upcoming Tanzania mission trip in the Fellowship Hall, or to attend worship at 8:30 or 11:00 Traditional in the Sanctuary, 11:00 Contemporary in Tyson Hall, or the 9:45 Service of Word and Table in the Sanctuary. Nursery and childcare will be available for infants through 5k. We hope you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
New Life Singers Homecoming Concert
Don't miss the New Life Singers Youth Choir in their Homecoming Concert. NLS will arrive home from their choir tour on Wednesday, May 29 and will perform all of their tour music at 6:00 pm in the Chapel. All former NLS members are invited to come and attend and join us on "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing."
Godspell Auditions
Auditions for our upcoming musical Godspell will be held June 9-10. The production dates for this wonderful musical based on the Gospel of Matthew will be August 8-11. All people ages 12+ are invited to audition. Please send audition requests to Quint Harris ([email protected]).
Provide Life-Changing Scholarships
Since December of 2018 the VHUMC Foundation has provided 25 education scholarships from their appropriately designated funds totaling over $50,000 to deserving students within our congregation and conference. This is possible through the generosity of donors who have seen the need to assist students in colleges and seminaries. In many cases, these funds become life-changing to the students and those whom they impact. If you are interested in helping provide scholarships, please contact John Sweeney ([email protected]).
Holy Land 2020
VHUMC will be returning to the Holy Land in 2020. Join Dr. Bill Brunson on a 10-day Holy Land journey, February 4 -13, where we will visit The Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Mt. of Beatitudes, Jerusalem, Masada, The Dead Sea, and much more. Space is limited and the trip is almost full. For more information, and registration, please contact Jim Frazier ([email protected] / 769-0126).
Register for Vacation Bible Camp
We invite 4k (by September 1st, 2018) through 5th graders to join us on a voyage to Mars and beyond! During Vacation Bible Camp we will go on a journey through space using music, crafts, games, skits, Bible Study, science, and more to explore where God's power can take us. VBC will be June 10-14 from 9:00-12:00 each day.

Please let the church know if you are not able to pay for VBC. We do not want any child to miss this great experience because of money.

Volunteers Needed for VBC
Vacation Bible Camp is headed all the way to Mars this year, so we need some help! It takes so many people to make this exciting week happen, and we want you to be a huge part of that. VBC will be June 10-14 from 9:00 am to noon each day. We would love for you to join us for this fun week!
  • Adults:  We still need people to lead elementary small groups from one activity to the next, and we still need some help in the elementary craft room. For any questions, please email Jamie Meeks ([email protected]).
  • Students:  If your student is interested in volunteering, please click on the link and fill out the registration. For any questions, please contact Kathryn Groat ([email protected]). Registration is due by May 24.

VBC Break Room
We can use your help for the VBC break room. Each year during VBC we provide drinks and snacks for the 250+ volunteers and teen helpers. This year we are in need of 2-liter drinks (Diet Coke, Coke, Sprite, Sunkist, Root beer, etc.), chips, cookies, crackers and candy. We will have a box designated for this in the church office and on the preschool floor. If you would like to donate perishable items (fruit, dips, breakfast casseroles, brownies, muffins, donuts, veggie trays, etc.) we will take those the week of VBC in the Lighthouse kitchen area located on the 2nd floor. Thanks in advance for your help! If you have questions, please contact Kim Harper (615-525-6622).
5th Grade Splash Adventure
5th graders who attend Vacation Bible Camp have the opportunity to finish out their week at Splash Adventure! After VBC ends on Friday, June 14, they will meet in the Student Ministries Cafe, have pizza for lunch, and then go to Splash Adventure. 5th graders must be registered before June 1 and there are limited spots available. Please contact Jeremiah Stone ([email protected]) with questions.

Parent's Night Out
Parents Night Out is a laity led ministry designed to enrich the marriages of couples with children ages 3 months through 5th grade by providing a loving, safe and fun-filled time for their children while parents enjoy an evening out together. It's "families helping families grow stronger." We are currently accepting registrations for limited space for the 2019-20 school year. For more information, email Julie Bray ([email protected]).
New Creative Writing Class
Everyone has their own unique story. Want to learn how to express yourself better? This summer we have a new writing class called "The Story in You" where you can learn how to be a better writer. Classes will be taught by former Jefferson County school teacher Lisa Coleman.
  • Adult Class - Tuesdays from 10:00-11:00 am beginning June 18 for six weeks. Fee: $100
  • High School Class - Thursdays from 1:00-2:00 pm beginning July 11 for four weeks. Fee: $70

We Are All Kids at Heart
Even as adults we would love to play on an age-appropriate playground. We have two great playgrounds at VHUMC, but the structures and motion rides are often damaged by older children who are too big for the equipment. Parents, please help us by keeping your children off of the small playground if they are over three years old and off the larger playground if they are over 4th grade. And please, never leave your children playing without adult supervision.
You Can Be a Super Hero
Sometimes it seems like special skills or talents are required to be a superhero. This clever video illustration is a reminder that a heart willing to love and serve is enough to change lives.

Be sure to register for this free resource! Text rightnow vhumc to 41411 to get your link to create a profile. Then watch 2,000+ Bible studies, talks, kids shows, youth studies, and movies. You can also contact Suzanne Scott-Trammell ([email protected]) if you have questions.

May Memory Verse
Our 1st - 5th graders are taught a different Bible verse each month, and have the opportunity to recite the verse before or after Sunday School in the elementary office for a sweet treat and chance to win an electric scooter at the end of the school year. We hope that these verses help to guide them throughout their lives. May's memory verse is: "Know that the Lord is God. It is He that made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture." - Psalm 100:3
Elementary Awards Assembly
The end of the year awards assembly for our 1st-5th graders will be Sunday, June 2, from 9:45-10:45 in the Fellowship Hall. We will be recognizing our Sunday School high attendance winners and we will be choosing our memory verse winners. Our memory verse winners will receive an electric scooter (must be present)! We will also have games, activities and more prizes. We hope you can join us for the fun!
Front Office Volunteers
VHUMC needs additional volunteers to work in the front office when Nancy is off or on vacation. The only requirements are a helpful attitude and a smiling face. If you would be willing to help, contact Nancy (769-0107 / [email protected]).
Ongoing Outreach
Food Pantry
Food Pantry funds are low, so any monetary donations would be really appreciated at this time. Please make checks payable to VHUMC with Food Pantry in the memo line. We are buying from the Community Food Bank and are now receiving frozen meats as well as canned goods and staples. We also buy from our local Farmers Market. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry that serves 500+ families each month. Thanks also to our 60 volunteers that help with the pantry!

Oak Mountain Missions
Oak Mountain Mission needs furniture and working appliances! Please call Roddy (685-5757) to set up your appointment. It is time for spring and summer clothes. No winter items or Christmas items at this time. Thank you!
