From Your Councilmember
The public meeting Monday evening to begin planning the public space component for the future redevelopment of Glen Lakes Golf Course was very successful, with about 140 residents sharing their ideas.  I very much appreciate the good turnout and the respectful civic engagement that you all brought to the evening.  You can still contribute you comments, and watch a video of the event here.

Village at Olive Marketplace. There have now been two neighborhood meetings with the developer requesting to re-zone the undeveloped portion of the commercial project on the southeast corner of 53rd Avenue and Olive. Both meetings have been well attended, with increased traffic though the neighborhoods being a primary concern.  The next step will be a public hearing in front of the Glendale Planning Commission on June 6th, where their will be an opportunity for public comments.

My thanks, again, to those of you who shared your thoughts regarding proposed changes to our independent internal audit position. By a 5 to 2 vote, the Council did adopt an ordinance which replaces out the  Internal Auditor with an internal audit program- the difference being that going forward, most audits will be done through contracts with external audit firms rather than by an internal city auditor. The good news is, the ordinance also establishes an independent audit committee charged with the oversight, guidance, and support of the internal audit program. This committee will be compromised of three city council members, and two Glendale residents possessing accounting, financial, or audit knowledge. The City Manager and the city's Budget and Finance Director will both serve as ex-officio, non-voting members of the audit committee. If you are interested in serving on the committee, or want to recommend a member, feel free to contact me.

Have a great weekend!

Recycling Tip...Caps On!

Everybody knows that plastic bottles can be recycled, but what about caps? YES they can be recycled!

Thanks to improved sorting processes, we can recycle plastic caps with no added effort! Just empty the contents of the bottle, put the cap on, and toss it in the recycling bin.  Click here  for a list of items Glendale's recycling program accepts.
