Penn State CHOT Site Director Conrad Tucker Attends The Gates Millennium Scholars Celebration
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) is a non-profit entity founded in 2000 by Bill and Melinda Gates. According to the BMGF website, the foundation is "dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals around the world."
On April 24, 2018, Tucker was invited by the BMGF to attend the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program Celebration in Seattle. Of the more than 20,000 GMS scholars and alumni, approximately 30 scholars were invited to participate in the celebration.

"The opportunity to dine with Bill and Melinda in such a small, intimate setting, was truly a humbling and honoring experience," Tucker said. "I will be forever grateful for the generous financial and mentoring support of the BMGF," Tucker went on to say.

While networking at the GMS event, Tucker had the opportunity to discuss the transformative work that  CHOT is doing, and the tangible benefits of industry-university collaborations. One such transformative project is the ability to capture patients' biometrics using computer vision algorithms. Such capabilities could potentially transform remote disease diagnosis and management, both in developed and developing worlds.

Penn State graduate student Sakthi Prakash's recently published journal paper demonstrates the feasibility of remote heart rate estimation using a video camera. A video of the method can be seen here. Readers interested in the science behind the method can access the peer reviewed journal article here
