An Introduction to Courageous Conversation About Race™: A Protocol to Engage with Students and Families around Race
Why Examine and Address Race? Race matters-in society and in our schools. It is critical for educators to address racial issues in order to uncover personal and institutional biases that prevent all students, and especially students of color, from reaching their fullest potential. COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION™ serves as the essential strategy for school systems, organizations, students, parents and community leaders to address racial disparities through safe, authentic and effective cross-racial dialogue.
Dr. Watson has been the keynote speaker and moderator for the Diversity Summits sponsored by the AUHSD for the last three years. These summits bring students together from all four high schools to discuss diversity and race and to give directions to the equity teams at each site.
