Westland, MI (May 8, 2019) - Westland will once again host the Wayne Westland Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 26. The parade will begin at John Glenn High School at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude with a Remembrance Ceremony at the Westland Veterans Memorial Garden hosted by VFW Post 9885. The Memorial Garden is located behind the Westland Public Library at 6123 Central City Parkway.
The parade, a long-time tradition in the city, was canceled last year due to lack of participation.
This year's parade will feature high school marching bands, JROTC programs, the World Champion Westland Meteors Football Team and Cheer Squad, Cub Scout Packs, Girl Scout Troops and the Freedom Riders Motorcycle Group.
"We are so appreciative to our fellow veterans organizations and to the City of Westland for helping us to make this year's parade a reality," commented Wayne Westland Veterans Parade Committee Chairperson," Dan Stachow.
This year, the Memorial Day event will also feature a Remembrance Ceremony at the Westland Veterans Memorial Garden which will include guest speakers a 21 Gun Salute a more.
"After meeting with all of our local Veterans Organizations, they expressed the desire to bring the event back and make it more reflective of the meaning of Memorial Day to honor our fallen service men and women throughout our country's history," commented Mayor Wild.
