Russell's Ritings....
Many years ago a Boston pastor was walking back to his church after lunch. He passed a young boy carrying some birds in a cage.
"Where did you get the birds?" the pastor asked. "I trapped them in a field," came the reply. The pastor asked, "What are you going to do with them?" The lad said, "Oh, I'm going to play with them awhile and then feed them to old cat back home. They're just field birds and don't sing very well.
The preacher then asked if he could buy the birds and the cage for two dollars. The boy agreed to the sale but told the preacher he was making a bad bargain.
The preacher took the cage behind his church and released the two birds. They flew away singing because of their newfound freedom. The following Sunday he had the empty cage on the pulpit as he told the story. He concluded by saying, "When I released the birds they went away into the blue singing, and it seemed they were singing 'redeemed, redeemed'.
The resurrection of the dead assured the disciples they had been redeemed, but only after Pentecost and the birth of the church did the disciples have the power to sing it! Just as the Holy Spirit gave power to the early church, He gives power to us today to move the church forward.
Continuing in the series "What We Need", this Sunday the text is from Matthew 16: 18, and the sermon is "What We Need: Church". I hope to see you here!

This year UMC Evergreen is moving to a weekend VBS format. We hope that this new format will make VBS available to more families in our church and our community! Our schedule will be as follows:

Saturday, June 23: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Polar Blast sessions all day long! (Preschool has the option of a half or full day)

WE NEED FUND RAISING IDEAS!
If you have any unique, new ideas please share them!
In the 2018 church budget $7,000 was projected as income from fund raising. The Finance Team is looking for ideas for these fund raising projects. Ruthanne Huber has graciously agreed to coordinate the fruit sale again this year. A couple of ideas we have received are: a "Sip and Paint" art class and a golf tournament. We are hoping that some of you, especially our newer members, might have some unique, new ideas. Please contact me or e-mail the church office with your ideas.

CHURCH SPRING CLEAN-UP DAY
The date for the Church Spring Clean-up Day is June 2nd starting at 9:00 and hopefully being done by noon. Coffee, juice, and snacks will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves and yard tools including weed whips, leaf blowers, and tree trimming equipment. Work will include general cleanup, painting inside and out (if the weather cooperates), landscaping, tree trimming, weed and grass cutting, and of course just miscellaneous yard work. All are invited and we hope to have a big crowd to make light work for this annual event.

COWBOY SUNDAY/CHURCH AT THE RANCH/PICNIC
Location: 13502 S. Wamblee Valley Road, Conifer, CO
This year UMCE will combine its Cowboy Sunday and Church Picnic. It will be held at Glenn and Pat Stoll's ranch outside of Conifer. Please join us for Russell's last Sunday with UMCE where he will preach from the tree house. The outdoor worship service will take place at 10:30 am with the church picnic after the service. The Grill Masters will be there and you can bring a side dish to share. Please make plans to join us!
