Second Annual Meeting of the Minds

BHECN hosted the 2nd Annual Behavioral Health Education Seminar on April 12 bringing together more than 70 faculty members and students from behavioral health training programs across Nebraska. (See map locations below.)
There are 88 of Nebraska’s 93 counties recognized as mental health professional shortage areas by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. BHECN was created to develop a statewide workforce solution for the shortage of licensed behavioral health professionals.

BHECN announced the 2019 Annual Awards honorees, recognizing individuals who make a significant impact in the behavioral health field in the categories of distinguished service, ambassadorship, and courage.

nk. Ciera was chosen to receive the Ambassador Award because of her dedication to building awareness for the behavioral health care field and the need for behavioral health care in rural Nebraska.

Continuing
education credit will be available for LMHP's. For Psychologists, this program is co-sponsored by the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Psychology. The UNL Department of Psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The department maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Participants attending this program can receive 2 CEs.

Three were honored during UNMC Omaha commencement ceremony including Catherine Jones-Hazledine, Ph.D.
Excerpt:
Dr. Jones-Hazledine, was honored for her contribution to the state's rural mental health needs. "Dr. Cate," as her client families know her, is a leader in providing behavioral health services in Nebraska's rural and underserved areas. As owner of Western Nebraska Behavioral Health, she and her staff currently provide care in eight primary care-based clinics located in Alliance, Bridgeport, Chadron, Crawford, Gordon, Rushville, Scottsbluff and Valentine, Neb.

Shanna Rosentrater, MA, LMHP
|
Shanna has been working with BHECN since 2013 on several projects in the Nebraska Panhandle, such as Frontier Area Rural Mental Health Camp (FARM CAMP), and the Rural Provider Support Network. She has also participated in the ambassador programs for high school students in both Kearney, and South Sioux City, Nebraska. Shanna was recently offered and has accepted a genetics coordinator position with UNMC in Gordon, Nebraska.
Shanna is a licensed mental health practitioner who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults, from all backgrounds and diagnoses. She provides individual, family & couples therapy services and previously worked under the Munroe-Meyer Institute Americorps program.
Shanna’s training includes a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Psychology and Family Consumer Sciences and a Master’s in Community Counseling from Chadron State College.
Shanna’s most recent accomplishment was being a recipient of BHECN’s Ambassador Award for 2019.

It is a unique partnership among the state legislature, academic institutions, and community partners
to create a statewide workforce solution to increase the number of licensed behavioral health professionals.
