Florida Atlantic University named
Rod Murphey, Ph.D., the new associate vice president for academic affairs of FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus. Murphey previously served FAU as chair of Biological Sciences, director of the Jupiter Life Science Initiative, and Director of the Integrative Biology Ph.D. program.
"Dr. Murphey is distinctively prepared for this role, given his past service as director of neuroscience programs at FAU, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the National Science Foundation, and the State University of New York-Albany. He has a track record of working across colleges and units to develop innovative teams, and I am sure he will bring this same collaborative approach to his new role," said
Bret Danilowicz, Ph.D., FAU provost and vice president for academic affairs. "At this time, I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Eliah Watlington, who has overseen the campus as associate provost for the past eight years. She will continue to lead the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Jupiter, and I thank her for her service."
In this new position, Murphey will be responsible for the management of all academic operations on the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter. In addition to his strategic oversight of degree planning and enrollment growth he will also lead the rapidly-developing research enterprise in coordination with FAU’s Brain Institute, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, and Scripps Research.

Timothy Steigenga, Ph.D., Selected to Serve as Interim Dean of the Wilkes Honors College

Florida Atlantic University selected
Tim Steigenga, Ph.D., as the interim dean of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. Steigenga is currently a professor of political science and associate dean of campus and community engagement at the Wilkes Honors College.
"Following from your feedback and subsequent interviews of several of the candidates, I am pleased to inform you that Dr. Tim Steigenga has accepted the offer to serve as the Interim Dean for the College which will coincide with Dean Ellen Goldey’s departure in mid-May 2019," said
Bret Danilowicz, Ph.D., FAU provost and vice president for academic affairs. "We have greatly appreciated Dean Goldey’s leadership of the Wilkes Honors college over the past three years, and know that she will be a fantastic vice president for Academic Affairs and Dean at Centre College. I look forward to working with Dr. Steigenga as the administrative and academic leader of the honors college next academic year."
Steigenga will assume his role as interim dean effective May 16.

Robert Stackman, Ph.D., Named Dean of the Graduate College
|
"In addition to his role in supporting the innovative joint programs between FAU and Max Planck on our Jupiter campus, Dr. Stackman has served as PI and Co-PI on a number of NIH and NSF research grants regarding the physiology of memory processes. He also has an extensive record of collaborating with and mentoring graduate students," said
Bret Danilowicz, Ph.D., FAU provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Stackman will assume his role as dean effective June 1.

The
Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University received the Distinguished Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations competition in New York City. Thirty FAU undergraduates including some from the
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College joined more than 5,000 college students from 350 universities in the annual competition where schools represent countries, and students step into the shoes of diplomats to solve global problems. Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D., professor of political science in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, directs the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program, which offers students a unique opportunity to enhance their diplomatic skills and compete in diplomatic simulations.
