Recent Board Approval with Regards to Sharing Entertainment Costs:
If you
did not sign up for an evening meal, but would like to join us for just the entertainment portion of the evening, you are welcome to do so at anytime. The sign up for entertainment only will be left up and running on our website until the end of the event. Please take a moment to sign up from your computer or smart phone before heading over. It is the board's expectation that everyone on site during the presence of
paid entertainment sign up for this portion of the event in order to be billed properly and contribute to the cost of the entertainment only - even if you did not sign up for a meal.
Recent Board Approval with Regards to a DCLSA Marketplace:
Sue Campbell had a wonderful idea to have a DCLSA "Marketplace". The idea was welcomed by the board. The tab is now live on our DCLSA website below. Please take a moment to view the current needs of the club and determine if you may have an item that fits our needs, or would like to give a gift card / donation to help fulfill a request. The protocol for this process is listed on the site as well. Please familiarize yourself with the process as the club cannot accept unauthorized donations.
To take this idea further, there is a section where you can posts things you have and things you need for your personal use. Check it out!

If you do not want photos of yourself shared in the PRIVATE DCLSA Member only Facebook Group, Member Only Photo Album, or the PRIVATE membership only Constant Contact E-mails, please let us know ASAP. If we do not hear from you, we will assume we have permission to share photos of you through these membership only platforms. We are using these platforms as they are a more private means of sharing experiences than our public website. All member posted photos will be checked by the moderators
prior to posting.

Heather Savage Crowe
Heather is the progeny of current member Ruta Savage, and 1999 Commodore William (Doc) Savage. Heather is also the sister of current member Elyzabeth Savage (Robert Goralski). Heather has two sons, Carter and Logan. Heather jumped right in and offered to coordinate the games for one of the biggest events of the summer - The July 4th Extravaganza! She is also coordinating the Annual Doc Savage Cardboard Boat Regatta. We hope you will join in on that fun!
Kim and Jamie Perozzi
Colby Nill has to be the youngest DCLSA recruiter. He started working on this family when he met their son Tyler in kindergarten back in Rostraver PA. It turns out it's not too much of a stretch for them to join the club. We learned a few months into the friendship that they have a second home . . . on Deep Creek Lake. Apparently even 5 year olds can feel some cosmic connection to our beloved lake. Hard to believe that they found best friends in each other with no adult intervention, and appear to be the only two families in our school district with homes here. They have been in the same homeroom for 3 years in a row and now also share the claim of being the first graduating class of Deep Creek Critters Sailing School. They look forward to being old enough to attend a full week of sailing school this summer during the week of July 22nd. Jamie and Kim are both engineers near Pittsburgh, PA. Jamie's family has had a house across from the Discovery Center for several generations and he and Kim are excited to join our association to add another layer of adventure to an already out-going family lifestyle.
Karen Michenko
Karen and her two daughters, Katie and Kelsey, hail from Pittsburgh. Karen and Katie will be taking sailing school this summer. Karen's lake residence is on Beckman's Peninsula. Karen is sponsored by Lissa and David Klueter. More information and a photo will be coming soon!
New Managers Arriving this Week!
Sara Newton and David Shepphard
David was born in Sydney, Australia and moved to the US permanently in 1986. Sara grew up in Belleville, Illinois (near St Louis, Missouri). We met at a summer camp, Camp Ondessonk, in Southern Illinois in 1974. We still hike and camp and travel with many of the people we worked with way back then.
Since our marriage in 1987, we have lived in Phoenix, Belleville, Sydney, and recently Grand Canyon Village. Our professions have varied. Sara's career has included working as head cook in summer camps, mapping with the Department of the Interior and teaching high school science for 28 years. David has worked as an architectural draftsman for about 30 years, but recently he has been an assistant cook and Culinary Arts teacher at Grand Canyon School.
We retired from the Grand Canyon School in May of 2018 with the hope of becoming managers of the Turkey Neck Yacht Club. Our son, Kyle, and his family live in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Kyle is married to Jessica Abramowitz, whose parents, George and Linda, have a house on Deep Creek Lake and belong to the Club.
One of our loves is refurbishing houses. We have a cozy log cabin in Ponderosa, California, and a quaint adobe in Tucson, Arizona. Both houses are on the vacation rental market and fit well into our new nomadic existence - teach as long term subs at the Grand Canyon this winter, spend the spring hiking outside of Tucson, manage the yacht club during the summer, and play in the Sierras during the fall.
Having spent the last few decades in the Midwest and the West, we look forward to exploring the eastern states and seeing more of our grandchildren (and their parents). Our goal is to do a great job for the Club by providing excellent food, managing the property well, and upholding the welcoming social atmosphere that is already the hallmark of the Club. We look forward to meeting everyone and would like to thank the Club Board for giving us this opportunity.
