Dear  ,

Late Start Classes
Get a jump start on classes for next semester. There are several courses being offered in an 8-week format beginning at the end of September and ending in December. A full list of courses is available on the website and WebAdvisor will provide current information on enrollment.

Courses in general education include health, political science, history, economics, music, and math. Innovative courses in career education include the Ford-sponsored ASSET automotive technology program. Recognized as one of the best training programs in the world, the Ford Automotive Student Service Education Training (ASSET) program prepares students to support all the systems of all Ford vehicles. Additionally, BUS 113 (Gig Economy: The New Entrepreneurial Path) provides students foundational training on freelancing and entrepreneurial opportunities in disciplines where gig work is common: music, ornamental horticulture, automotive, graphic design, and business.

If you are looking to upgrade your business skills, many business courses are available. In 8-weeks or less, you can learn about Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, or keyboarding.

If you have questions about enrolling in any of these courses, connect with your counselor.

Harvest Pantry
The Harvest Pantry is back in action for students and employees with a new, improved, and socially distanced design to ensure you get the food you need for this fall semester.  Meet the Cuyamaca Cares team on campus in the bus circle, on September 18th at 11:30 am and get some free groceries! We'll be giving away food until 1:30 pm or until the food runs out, so get there early!
Participants will stay in their cars, student ID's, class schedules, or staff parking permits will be placed on the dash, trunks should be open, and we will place the food in your trunk.  We care about your safety. And we know you care about ours, so please don't open your windows, don't get out of your cars, and please don't bring your pets.  if you have any questions, please email

Information for all semester food drives can be found here:

Campus Update

It's quiet on campus without students and most faculty and staff. Our facilities team is using this time to work on projects that keep our campus safe and updated. Last week, facilities re-painted the One-Stop.

In the coming weeks, brush clearance and abatement will begin. Cuyamaca College has contracted with Environmental Land Management (ELM) to clear brush on and around campus. In the last two years, there have been two fires near campus.

ELM staff, machinery, and 150-200 brushing goats will work for approximately 6-8 weeks to clear brush to reduce fire fuel and blight. The goats and their human counterparts will cover nearly 50-acres of the 165-acre campus in that time. Approximately 35% of the work will be conducted manually with humans and machinery, the balance of the work will be conducted by the goats.

"Using goats will mitigate environmental impact and ensure responsible use of public funds," said Julianna Barnes, president of Cuyamaca College. "The goats are approximately 20% of the cost of an all human-powered abatement project and can make a greater impacted in a shorter period of time."

A variety of species of goats are being used, all noted for their body size, ability to deal with the heat and elements, and are docile.      Goats are not native to North America, and thus prefer many of the non-native plants that have invaded and overgrown in areas around campus. The result is expected to yield a more natural fire break and a return of the land to wildlife and native plant life.
