Spectrum News Covers Murdy's Gratitude Project
|
|
Last week on the 44th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, Murdy Elementary School held its annual "Gratitude Project" event. The one-hour ceremony was hosted by sixth grade students who welcomed and honored true military heroes who they spent the year studying. This powerful event was a culmination of their year-long study of gratitude during which sixth grade students interviewed war heroes, and created art and writings about what they learned. Many students uncovered details of their family legacy for the first time and gained a deeper understanding of freedom, racism, hardship, bravery, and love of country.

Paine Carnival Draws a Crowd
At the Paine Elementary Panther Palooza celebration last week, students and their families enjoyed games, prizes, and great food. The event was a community affair, with McGarvin and La Quinta students volunteering their time to ensure that parents could enjoy the event with their children. School Board Member Bob Harden also joined in on the fun.
As always, the highlight was Principal Martinez hovering precariously over a tank of water. Sporting a stylish pink shower cap and full suit, he was overconfident that he would stay dry; egging students on to hit the target. It didn’t take long, though, for him to feel the cold water as he took the plunge!
