January 4, 2020
Dear

Happy New Year!

We just spent a great 10 days with family on the west coast. The older the grandchildren get the more activities they seem to have and we all kept really busy. Cooking of all kinds was the main attraction.

With the holidays over, I am looking ahead to all that is happening in the coming year especially my Craftours travel and new endeavors in quilting. In addition to visiting Greece and Kenya, in October I will be leading a trip to Uzbekistan. While this may not have been on your travel "bucket list," it has been named a top travel destination for 2020 with its "untouched and sacred history that has survived over thousands of years."  Click here to read an interesting article about this fascinating area.

As I'm sure it is with many of you, when the holiday season ends I can't wait to grab a needle and thread and start on a new project. If you are the same, we hope to inspire you with exciting classes, super products and new projects.

Make sure to continue reading to learn about new fabrics, upcoming lessons and projects, a helpful tip and future web specials.  There's much to look forward to in the year ahead.
New Fabric: Denim Brights
These denim-textured fabrics first appeared in my Miyako collection and then a collection of their own. I've now added eight new fabrics called Denim Brights, a fun addition to my Denim collection. These vividly colored fabrics range from fuchsia through oranges, yellow, greens and blues.

They are available by the yard and in a fat quarter bundle. You can take a closer look at the new Denim Brights here.
Coming This Year: Lessons on Border Print Basics
It is no secret that I love border print fabrics. Yes, the name "border print" implies that they are used just on the outside of a quilt but there is so much more you can do with them.

In the coming year in the monthly newsletters, I plan to introduce you to exciting ways to use these fabrics to enhance your quilt designs. Each month, I will present a different technique along with ideas for creating unique projects.

Watch for the first lesson in next month's newsletter.
Quilt Tip - Colors Make a Difference
In many of my blog posts, especially my most recent using the colors of poinsettia plants, I  have written about proportions of color and how different a quilt can look depending on how much of each color is used.

A border print fabric makes a perfect frame for a quilt. But the colors of the border selected can make a dramatic impact on the overall look of a quilt. To illustrate the point, I decided to take one of our more popular patterns, Shimmering Sea, and put a different border on it. The first one, which we have been featuring, is the green Burano border and gives the quilt a strong green appearance. I have just added another variation to the site using the Miyako blue and purple border. This makes the quilt look much bluer and also brings out the purple.

Whether your border is going to be a border print or overall fabric design, you have to decide the color you want to be most prominent before you select the fabric.
