CEBC launches its annual survey report titled "Clean Energy in MENA: Industry and Workforce Readiness"
|
The CEBC launched its annual survey report in an official event that took place on 23rd of April, 2019 at the Capital Club, DIFC.
The report surveys the level of preparedness of businesses and people in the region to face megatrends and highlights the large gap between the perceived importance and the perceived preparedness. The report then highlights the main findings of the CEBC MENA survey, which asks about importance (i.e. how relevant is this megatrend to me or my organisation) and readiness (i.e. how ready am I and how ready is my organisation for this megatrend), as well as questions related to capacity development, gender in the workplace, and professional satisfaction.

The Energy Efficiency working group released a survey in March, 2019 to identify the the challenges and opportunities facing the ESCO companies in the MENA region. The survey covered the expansion and growth plans to other countries in the region, market views, project financing and contracting challenges. The survey results were presented at Retrofit 2019

DEWA, ACWA Power and Silk Road Fund reach financial closing on 950MW 4th phase of Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
|
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the consortium led by CEBC board member, ACWA Power, and Silk Road Fund, which is owned by the Chinese Government, announced the financial closing of the 950-megawatt fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world. The solar park will produce 5,000 megawatts by 2030 with investments totalling AED 50 billion. This is a new milestone in promoting the use of clean and renewable energy.

Pearl Initiative, Zubair Sec and IFC collaborate for MSME resilience in Oman
|
The Pearl Initiative held a workshop in collaboration with CEBC partner member, Zubair SEC, in Muscat, Oman on 24 and 25 April. The workshop was the first in a series scheduled for 2019, and was led by a representative of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a subsidiary of the World Bank Group.
The workshop focused on how micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Oman can benefit by adopting corporate governance practices to ensure enhanced business outcomes.

Enova Launches Dedicated Energy and Performance Space to Enable Middle East’s Smart Facilities Management Market

Dubai Reveals Plan for the World’s Largest System
|
The United Arab Emirates could play host to the world’s largest concentrated solar power facility, also known as CSP. Saudi Arabian firm ACWA Power is the primary team behind a giant facility near Dubai, which plans to harness 700 megawatts through this alternative to photovoltaic panels. When it’s finished in 2030, it’s expected to produce 950 megawatts of power total, with 250 megawatts from PV panels and a further 700 from CSP.

Dewa to build 4,000MW solar plant for Dubai's Museum of the Future
|
As part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Dewa will work in “an advisory role” that will see it providing
solar energy
technology, smart grid integration, energy efficiency, water treatment through renewables, artificial intelligence, and machine learning programmes in energy, water, and related utilities areas.
Research and development activities focused on academia and the industry will also be provided by Dewa, which will deliver “advanced energy and water technologies” for the museum.

Iraq aims for 755 MW of solar in first tender
|
Iraq's Ministry of Electricity has launched a first-round tender for 755MW of PV capacity by inviting solar companies to participate.
The projects across the five provinces of Babel, Wasit, Karbala, Al-Muthanna and Diwaniyah are expected to be completed by the end of 2020. The Ministry will also provide logistical, technical and legal services for other sites in southern and western Iraq, according to a Ministry statement.

Saudi petro giant plans 300MW solar park, confirms prototype PV cell tests
|
One of the world’s largest petrochemicals manufacturers, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), is considering a 300MW solar PV project in Yanbu, on the Red Sea coast of western Saudi Arabia.
The Riyadh-based company said in its latest Sustainability Report that it is working on a feasibility study for the solar park that would supply power to the firm's nearby affiliates. It added that its manufacturing affiliates in the Middle Eastern country are working toward the 2019 Saudi Energy Efficiency Program (SEEP) targets.

Sohar Port, Shell join hands to build solar power plant

Sohar Port and Freezone will allocate 600 hectares of land for solar plants under development, with capacities ranging from 10MW up to 40MV. The pioneering project of 25MW will be focused on providing dedicated supply to Al Tamman Indsil Ferrochrome (ATIFC), and the entire development will create long lasting economic value for the nation and the companies within the freezone.

Oman To Build First 1MW Of Solar Rooftop

man based conglomerate, Khimji Ramdas (KR), has announced a strategic partnership with Nafath Renewable Energy, a leading SME in renewable energy sector to design, develop, install and commission solar energy systems in Oman.
The solar plant will feed any excess energy generated back to the grid following the Sahim 2 initiative under the Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER).

AMEA Power Achieves Financial Close on 50MW Al Husainiyah Solar Park in Jordan
AMEA Power
has reached financial close and will begin the construction of the USD 74 mln Al Husainiyah Power Plant, a 50MW greenfield solar park in Ma’an Governorate (~200 km south of Amman) in Jordan. The commercial operation date is scheduled for Q4 2020 and will supply 42,000 households with affordable clean energy and avoid at least 100,000 tonnes in annual CO2 emissions.

Philippines based AC Energy and Vietnam’s BIM Group have energized 3 solar power plants with 330 MW cumulative capacity in Ninh Thuan province of Vietnam. The 3 projects are located in BIM solar power plant complex as BIM 1, BIM 2 and BIM 3 with 30 MW, 250 MW and 50 MW capacity, respectively. This makes it the largest solar power plant in Southeast Asia at present.
