The Community Action Council is accepting donations of non-perishable, readily consumable food for those without electricity at the Howard County Food Bank (9385 Gerwig Lane, Columbia, MD 21046), from 10 am - 3 pm.
United Way has re-established its EC Strong fund to assist with humanitarian relief.

to accept donations for businesses, residents and property owners.
Please check details of each site carefully before donating, as they have been set up to serve different needs.

The Longest Table is a community initiative to build new relationships and talk about the future of Howard County. It brings people together to break bread and share conversation with someone they don't know, and explore both common ground and new ideas with our neighbors.
The event in 2017 was the first of its kind in Maryland and drew more than 300 people. This year's event on June 16 will be an even bigger and more ambitious event you won't want to miss. Check out the details and information here, and get your tickets today.

LHC News
LHC volunteers journeyed to the Maryland Food Bank on May 30 to learn more about its operations, and to volunteer sorting more than 10,000 pounds of food. The group was joined by Leadership U students, both alumni and incoming members of the Class of 2018.
Welcome Leadership U Class of 2018!
The Leadership U class of 2018 will kick off their program with a week of teambuilding July 29 - August 3. Fifty one students were selected representing all 12 public high schools and six
private schools. Thank you to the Leadership U steering committee and volunteers for an outstanding effort on recruitment!
Volunteers are needed to help with various activities during the July 29 - August 3 summer week. If you are interested in joining this outstanding group of young leaders for a few hours as they start their program, please contact Meg Ignacio.

If you have an interest in helping plan events for LHC members, consider volunteering for the General Membership committee.
The committee meets monthly and is responsible for keeping members engaged through social events and selecting innovative speakers and topics for the quarterly breakfasts and luncheons, and This Just In.

Community Impact Projects
Proposals are now being accepted for Community Impact Projects projects for the Leadership Premier Class of 2019. These are projects designed for the senior level leaders who will work on the projects from Oct. 2018 - May 2019. All projects are assigned a committee liaison to serve as a resource to both hosts and team.

Leadership Essentials 2019 Cohorts in Howard and Baltimore Counties
Leadership Essentials is a 6-month continuing education program for rising young professionals offered by Loyola University Maryland's Sellinger School of Business and Management.
New this year, a Leadership Essentials program will be offered in collaboration with the Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce, along with their traditional program offered in partnership with Leadership Howard County. This is a multifaceted program that combines skill-building, personalized coaching, and a community project. Information sessions will be held in July, with applications due in October. Member News
Howard County Fire Chief John S. Butler (LP 2012), has been appointed by Governor Larry Hogan to the Maryland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Board. Chief Butler was commissioned to the board due to his integrity, prudence, and vision to assist with the progression of EMS standards and protocols in Maryland. He served as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), paramedic, emergency services educator, and tactical medic for Howard County before he was selected him to lead the Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Kevin Kelehan (LP 1991) was honored by the Daily Record with its 2018 Leadership in Law award, which is given to recognize Maryland's legal professionals who show outstanding dedication to their occupation and communities.
Tom Burtzlaff (LP 2013) has been selected to join the board of the Central Maryland Chamber of Commerce. Tom is President of CMIT Solutions, a technology company in Columbia.

HowGirlsCode
Despite making up half of our K-12 student population and nearly 60% of college enrollments, girls and women are far less likely than boys and men to study computing and earn degrees and careers in related fields. HowGirlsCode seeks to increase gender parity in computer science education and careers through after school classes and summer camps for elementary and middle school age girls.
HowGirlsCode board members share a commitment to increasing the participation of girls in computer science. Professionals with experience in the fields of law, finance and education are invited to advance the work of HowGirlsCode in the community.
