Greetings!
:
In like a lion out like a lamb.. I daresay we are all holding our breath hoping that Mother nature smiles on us all and that we have seen the last snowflakes of winter. Temperatures are at least slightly above freezing and that has us all thinking about gardens, opening cottages and planning for summer fun!
Speaking of fun... In conjunction with David Dossette at Martello Alley, we organized a "Golden Easter Egg Hunt" through 15 DT Kingston shops & galleries last weekend. There was a draw for a gift basket worth $500.00 for those people that went to all 15 establishments and found the golden egg! It was our first time doing this event and the feedback was great with many people commenting that it was fun and that they had visited some shops that they had never been in before. There were a few "bugs" that we will work out for our next hunt. All in all, I think everyone had a great time!
I get to meet great artists all the time. One of the reasons that I love what I do! When I first purchased Cornerstone, all of my relationships started with a handshake and some nervousness (probably on both parts) as we all got to know each other. (some of the artists have been displaying their work here for a LONG time). But quickly most of the people I greet is now with hugs (sometimes a handshake first) but mostly hugs! I really enjoy talking with each of them and finding out about their creative processes and how they got started etc. I genuinely feel the love they have for their work and for us at Cornerstone. One of the artists we are going to feature is Marissa Sweet. She gives incredible hugs and her passion and joy for live is contagious! Her artwork is uplifting and features various scenes from nature from her travel adventures. She works in several different mediums and does mixed media pieces as well. Marissa is our first blog artist so be sure to look for that on the new website! Our blog "Perspectives on Art & Life" is ready to go! We will be featuring other artists, discovering their work and perspectives in a series of interviews.
Lisa and I have begun the process of placing orders for the spring season at Cornerstone. It's always exciting to see new collections of jewellery, pottery, paintings, textiles and so much more! We can only choose so many things and it's incredible how many more talented people are out there!
Nothing draws men into the store more than wood products. From boxes, to carvings, we see men reviewing the details of our wood artists very carefully. We love that we have many wood artists who inspire creativity in everyone. One such artist is Robert Knox. His exquisitely cutout wood pieces are beautiful, intricate and simple all at the same time! And his wood puzzles are not for the faint of heart! Robert & his wife often come into the store to visit so say "Hi" if you see them while you're here! Robert's work will be on display at the Feature wall at the store for the month of April.
Sometimes the best laid plans go awry....We had hoped to feature H'Art School however they were finding themselves a little stretched and our project did not happen after all. Our apologies to anyone who might have stopped in to look at their work. We are not giving up though and will keep you posted when we have the awesome work by their students hanging on our walls.
In April we are having 2 Zentangle classes. An Intro To Zentangle class on Sunday April 15 from 1-3 and a More Zentangle class on April 22 from 1-3. Spaces are limited so please call the store at 613-546-7967 to reserve your place. A fun time and light refreshments are guaranteed!
Have a safe & happy Easter, Passover & Ostera holiday depending upon what you observe!
From our heart you yours,
Penny & the wonderful staff at Cornerstone
