June is a very exciting month at Christ the King Community Daycare.  During the first week of June, we will have "Picnic Week."   Each individual class will enjoy their own picnics outside if the weather is nice, while keeping an eye out for marching ants and buzzing bees.  The children will continue to observe their butterfly and ladybug larvae.  Each class received a Butterfly Pavilion with 10 to 15 larvae, which is on display in their classroom.  They will watch closely as the larvae change to caterpillars, then chrysalis.  Then they will anxiously await the arrival of the beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies.  They will soon emerge and strengthen their wings by drinking up the juice from oranges and sugar water with their proboscis.  In a few days, they will be strong enough to fly away as we set them free.

Each class is also displaying their Domed Ladybug Land with approximately 10 insect-like larvae.  Ladybug larvae change into the pupa stage in two days.  They will remain in the pupa stage for about five days and then will emerge as adult ladybugs.  The teachers will have plenty of raisins on hand, as this is what they like to eat as they strengthen their shells.

Throughout June our classes will be "little scientists!" They will explore, predict and experiment with many different science concepts, like "Life Cycles"  and "Our Five Senses."   Art appreciation week will be during the last week of June. The children will blend and mix new colors and create unique shapes.

We are almost at the end of another school year. Congratulations to all of our four and five year-olds who will be going to kindergarten in the fall.  Thank you to all of our Pre-K parents, teachers and students.  Your hard work and team effort has paid off, and we are confident that your children will be fully prepared for kindergarten and much success in their future schools years.

Our Daycare students will be moving up to a new class the week of July 9th.  It is amazing to see how much they have grown and developed, and are ready for the next step.   There will be an orientation period the week of June 25th through June 29th.  This week the children will report to their current classrooms.  The teachers and children will talk about their new class, visit their new class, and meet their new teachers.  The week of July 9th they will begin in their new class.  You will receive a moving up/welcome email telling you about your child's new class.  We are so proud that they are ready to move on to the next level of learning and there is no better time for learning and fun than the summer at CTK.

It is often hard to say goodbye and transition to a new room and teachers.  Our teachers and administrators are here for you to answer any questions you may have and offer support if needed to help make this transition as pleasant as possible for you and your child.  Your child's progress report will be given out the last week of June.

  • Our Daycare Center is open from 7am - 7pm.

  • Please remember to make sure your child's cubby contains weather-appropriate clothing. We also appreciate all of our parents continuing to bring in diapers and a box of wipes twice each month on the 1st and the 15th.
  • When calling the facility, please keep in mind that calls should be ideally made between 12-2pm while the children are napping.
  • We ask that you do not allow your child(ren) to run ahead of you when entering and leaving the facility, it is a safety issue. Especially when exiting the building, children should never open the security door.
  • Strollers that are left in our storage area must be closed

We thank you for your cooperation with these matters.

Little Einsteins

Science with the Turtles
Last month, the Turtles learned a lot about science! We learned about insects, blending colors, parts of the human body, as well as parts of a plant. The Turtles were lucky enough to have a family come in for family involvement and show us the inside of a human body! They also helped us do an amazing project, which allowed us all to see all of our different fingerprints.

The Turtles were also able to plant our own Sunflower seeds and see if we could make them grow. We even planted lima beans to see if they would sprout. We gave the beans and seeds plenty of water, dirt and sunlight and hoped they would grow big and strong- just like us!

Also, in the science center we have been looking at all the different types of bugs that are coming around now that the warm weather is here. We use magnifying glasses and microscopes to see these bugs up close and personal. We also enjoyed making our own tie-dye shirts! The mixing of the colors was something we all enjoyed and we had some great guesses as to what colors the mixtures would turn!

Science with the Chipmunks
It's time for us to be scientist again. We did a solution experiment, a chemical  reaction explosion, and now we created a tornado.  During story time, the class read a book explaining to them what a tornado is. They took turns looking at the pictures so they could see what it looked like.  Then we explained to them how we could make one in a bottle.  We used six small empty water bottles.  Everyone took turns in helping to create the tornado.  Into two bottles we put some cut up construction paper, glitter and sequins.   We added water to each one, a few drops of liquid detergent and different colors of food coloring.  The caps were put on and taped.

Six children at a time was given the bottles and told to shake and spin the bottles.  When they stopped shaking and spinning the class was asked what happened inside the bottle.  They answered excitedly that everything kept spinning round and round just like a real tornado.  The children were able to connect what happens with a tornado from what they learned in the story, to making their own hands on tornado and had fun in the process.

Science with the Puppies
The Puppies are constantly learning new words and concepts every day.  Lately, we have been introducing the words "hot" and "cold" in the classroom, especially during lunch time.  When we tell the kids the food is hot, they will blow on it to cool off, which is very cute.  Now that the weather is getting nice and we have been going outside a lot more.  The kids will play for a while before we say that they are getting hot.  We use a spray bottle to mist the children who like it, and tell them that the water is cold.  There's no better way, however, to cool off from the hot playground than with a cold squeeze pop!  Yum!

Science with the Snugglies II
We are getting ready for the summer, and we are very curious to learn about the changes in weather! Now that it's nicer outside, we are seeing a change in our playground. We're noticing the new leaves growing on trees, birds flying around, and the sun shining down on our faces as we explore the playground. Other days, it rains and we are sad because we can't go outside. In the classroom, we have been using flash cards that have pictures of the different kinds of weathers. We see pictures of the sun, snow, rain, and fog. We enjoy learning about the weather, and we are very excited for the sunny weather to come our way!
Mathematicians

Math with the Bunnies
In the month May, the Bunnies focused on math.   Math can be found all around us.  From textures, to shapes and numbers, it is very simple to find something that relates to math.  In May, we worked  on counting up to the number nine.  Since May is in the middle of spring, we used insects to count.  The Bunnies made nine butterflies and took turns counting.  We also received live caterpillars for the Bunnies to enjoy and observe the change into butterflies.  It so happens that we ended up with nine cocoons.  We showed them the cocoons every morning and counted together.   Math is fun!

Math with the Dolphins
During the month of May, the Dolphins learned about plants and life cycles.  In the Math center the Dolphins worked on their sorting skills.  They created a flower with different colored petals and decorated each petal with foam shapes that matched the color of that petal.  Students also sorted out various kinds of seeds, including Sunflower seeds, tomato seeds, bean seeds, corn seeds, and tulip seeds.  Plants that we eat were also discussed.  Students sorted out fruit and vegetable plants, including carrots, celery, spinach, kale, watermelon, apples, oranges, and bananas.  The Dolphins worked on their patterns and they created an ABC pattern using images of different colored flowers and butterflies.  Counting skills were also reviewed during the month of May.  Students were given flowers labeled with a number.  Students added the corresponding number of petals onto each flower.  Students also counted out piles of seeds and determined which groups of seeds had more, and which group had less.

Math with the Lions
The Lions have had a very busy and fun filled year.  With our focus on math this month what better things to count, then to count some of the amazing things we have done throughout the year.  We sat down with the children and made a graph of some of the great things we have done.  We counted how many amazing friends we made through the year and talked about how much we love each and everyone.  The children also counted how many times they were superstars on the stage and how much practice it took to look so good.  We took a count of which activities they liked best throughout the year.  Blasting off into space and the Harvest Festival came in the top two.  We tried to count how many fun projects we did but there were just too many, the project that came up the most was our recycled rainbow fish.  That was by far the most fun we had doing a project as a class.

The children asked Miss Jessica and I who and what were some of our favorite things, but we couldn't really answer.  We love all the children and have so much fun teaching and working with them we could never keep a list.  We will miss each and every one and are so proud of how far they have come.  We know they will be so amazing in their new pre-k classes.  We would also like thank the parents for all the support you have given us!  Thank you all for a roarsome year!
Little Picassos

Art with the Kitties
Many of the Kitties' art projects are made by painting their hands and feet.  This month I introduced the Kitties to glue!  For the letter X, I wanted to make a xylophone out of construction paper.  I cut out different sized strips of different colored construction paper.  I called the Kitties to the table one by one and put the letter X in front of them with the piles of construction paper strips.  At first some of them seemed a little puzzled as to why there was no paint on the table, but once I showed them what to do, they were very excited!  Each child took their time picking out different colors, trying to make sure they had all their colors on their X.  We also said the colors as they glued it to the paper.  They had fun with glued again, when they glued white strips to the letter Z for a Zebra.  They're really getting the hang of gluing!

Art with the Sunflowers
The Sunflowers were super busy during the month of May.  To celebrate their mothers on Mother's Day, the Sunflowers worked very hard to make something that they were proud to give to their moms.  Using their feet, each child created a butterfly using washable paints, glitter, and popsicle sticks for the body.  The children also made cards for their moms using their hands and fingers.  Each child glued down a piece of brown construction paper that was cut into the shape of a flower pot.  Then the children's hands were painted green and pressed onto white paper.  Next, the children used different color paints and their fingers to create flowers.  Finally, the Sunflowers were asked to finish the sentence, "I love my mommy because..." and each child's response was written down on the flower pot.  The Sunflowers were so excited to give their artwork to their mothers for Mother's Day!

Art with the Ducks
In the month of May, we learned all about plants and life cycles. We learned about different plants and their life cycles as well as different animals and their life cycles.  In our art center, we created flowers using paper plates, scissors, and paint.  First we cut the edges of the paper plates to create petals, then we painted the middle part of the plate yellow for the center of the flower, then we painted the petals different colors. The edges of the plate dried outward so it looked like a blooming flower.

We also studied butterflies this month and learned that butterflies have symmetrical wings.  In our art center, we created symmetrical butterflies by painting one wing only and then folding our paper in half to make the other wing look the same.

The Ducks also dyed white carnations in different colored water using food coloring.  We counted all the colors we used and blue was the color most of us chose.  We watched as our flower petals turned from white to whatever color our water was.  We learned that the petals change color because the stem drinks the water and carries it up to the other parts of the flower.  Well done Ducks!
Musicians in the Making

Music with the Monkey's
Welcome to June! The end of our school year is here, but that doesn't mean the learning has. The Monkeys are so excited for summer to come. That means ice cream, picnics, and swimming. This year has been a great year with all the love that has been felt from you the parents. On behalf of Miss Sara and I, thank you all so much and we will miss you!!!

This month the Monkeys were asked to talk about music. During the month of May the Monkeys were practicing for Mr. Kenny's show.   In one of our music classes, we were singing our song, "This Little Light Of Mine."  All the children sang along.   During the song Steven R. asked, if we need to carry a light to sing the song.  Miss Sara and I laughed and said, "Not this time." The children were excited to sing the song in different ways; for example, first Miss Sara sang the song with the class, without the music in the background.  Then she put the music on and we sang it with background music. The Monkeys were amazed to hear the difference in sound.  Miss Sara explained that you could sing with or without music playing.  They had a great time and did wonderful at the show.

Music with the Panda's
The year is quickly coming to an end and I cannot believe how fast the time went.  Thank you Panda parents for everything you have done throughout the year.  Graduation is right around the corner!  With that being said, the Pandas had a great month in May.  They learned about the theme, "Plants & Life Cycle."  The Pandas learned the parts of a flower, how to plant flowers, and how to take care of flowers.

The Pandas had a great time learned about the butterfly life cycle, as well.  The children got to watch caterpillars go into their cocoons, and soon they will get to see how they transformed into beautiful butterflies!   In the music center the Pandas learned a song "Butterfly Fly; " it's  about how eggs change into caterpillars and how caterpillars change into butterflies.  For the month of May the Pandas did a lot of practicing for the music show with Mr. Kenny.  The Pandas were super excited to find out that they would be doing the song called, "Cric Cric Croc ."   In that song, the Pandas sing about munching leaves like caterpillars, going into a cocoon, and turning into a butterfly.  Congrats Pandas on a job well done!

Athletes in Training

Gym with the Angels
The Angels love to be active, and love gym time!  Some gym time activities that the Angels really enjoy doing are riding bikes and using the parachute. The bikes are always a big hit, especially because there are a variety of different colored bikes.  As the children ride the bikes, they always shout out which color bike they are using at that moment.  Another activity the Angels really love is the parachute.  All of the children and teachers grab a loop from the parachute, and watch the parachute gently float through the air as we all move our arms up and down.  Some of the children even try to run as quickly as they can underneath the parachute as it gently glides up in the air!  The Angels always have a lot of fun in the gym, and look forward to this special time each and every day.

Gym time with the Bumble Bees
As the year is sadly coming to an end, we take a moment to realize how much the children have grown, both mentally and physically!   For this month the Bumblebees have been doing some new things during our gym time. Along with our usual team games, bike and car rides, and dancing, we've started using the rock climbing wall!
We now have the coordination to pull up with our arms and push up with our legs.   Each child takes a turn climbing the wall while a teacher stands close to spot them from behind.    Their faces are priceless when they make it to the top!   We are also practicing our patience; we must keep back and wait our turn to climb the wall.  It is always fun to cheer our friends on

Tech with the Bears
This months' theme, is 'flowers and plants'; and it was explored throughout all of the centers in the classroom. The students were able to engage in many multisensory activities.  During small group, the students explored with the smart board playing a game of sorting flowers and plants into categories what grows on trees, what grows from roots, what grows on vines and what grows on top of the ground.  The Bears played a fun pattern game with flowers, they had to click and drag the flowers in either A-B, A, B, C or AA-BB pattern.  The Bears also had to opportunity to play a new game on the I-Pad where they had to plant flowers.  The children had to sequence the order in planting such as seeds, soil, pot, water, and sunlight.
The Nurse's Station

As the school year comes to an end, here are a few reminders we still need to be mindful of.
  • Keep in mind that we are a peanut-free school. Please help us to maintain a nut free environment by refraining from sending any such items (nuts, peanut butter, almond butter, any items containing nut oils, etc.) to school with your children.
  • Please be sure to regularly update your child's dietary restriction and allergy forms.
  • Please remember to pick up your child's medications from the nurse's office, as they will be discarded on the last day of school. Also, Medication Forms for next year are available.

Physicals and Immunizations:

As a reminder, please submit your child's annual physicals and immunizations in a timely manner. We are mandated by the Department of Health to keep record of all physicals and immunizations. Please refer to our Health Policy . Your child will not be allowed to attend Day Care/Pre-School without the appropriate updates and forms submitted.

Please Keep in Mind: The 24 Hour Rule of Thumb!
Students may return to Daycare or Pre-K after the following:
  • 24 hours without a fever (and without taking fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin)
  • 24 hours without nausea, vomiting or diarrhea (and tolerating a normal diet)
  • 24 hours of receiving medication (such as antibiotics)

Happy Father's Day!
Quotes
Angels
One warm and sunny morning while the Angels were in the playground, Lia turned around to one of her friends and said, "I need a pool!"
Bears
The Bears were playing in our dramatic play center (flower shop) and they were selling all sorts of seeds.  Violet was playing with Giuliana, Roman and Matthew H.  Giuliana and Roman were selling the seeds and Violet and Matthew H. were buying them.  Both children picked out their seeds and asked, "How much are these seeds?"  Giuliana said, "They are three, six, five dollars."  Both Violet and Matthew said, "Great!  Here is the money."  Roman said to them, "Do you have any coupons?"  Matthew said, "Oh yeah !  I forgot.  Here's my coupon and I get one free."  Violet looked at Matthew and said, "Way to go!  Way to get us free stuff!" and they both laughed.

Bumblebees
As the children were waking up from their naps, Layla wakes up stretching and says, "I feel good!"

Chipmunks
We were in the Music room when Miss. Nancy heard Mia, Emilia, Noah, Harper, and James talking. They were talking about playing at each others houses. James said to them, "You can come to my house because my house is very clean!"
Dolphins
While at rehearsal for the Mr. Kenny music recital, Sophia said, "I'm going to sing nice and loud.  Don't worry Miss Nancy and Miss Jackie!"

Ducks
We had so much fun watching our grass grow.  We quickly realized that one windowsill filled with our grass cups were growing more than the other windowsill with the other grass cups.  Ms. Katie asked the class why they thought that was happening and they shared their ideas. Eric said: "They need water and sun to grow."  Adele said: "They need more sun!"  We agreed that they all needed more sunlight since we all watered our grass every day and they did not need more water.  Then Ms. Katie switched the cups so they all would get the same amount of sunlight and grow grass.

Kitties
One day, Ms. Ashley was walking by Ashley M. and told her she was so pretty.  Ashley looked at Ms. Ashley and said, "Yes, I am so pretty!!!"

Lions
One morning the Lions were eating snack outside and some goldfish fell on the ground. Miss Melissa said, "Leave it. The birds will have a snack later." The next morning when the lions went out to play Madison.M ran out to the spot we dropped the goldfish and then ran over to Miss Jessica and said, "Look the birds came and had their snack." One day during gym time the Sunflowers asked Ms. Ally if they could have a dance party.  Ms. Ally agreed and put on the "Trolls" soundtrack.  Everyone was dancing around and having so much fun when Riley came up to Ms. Ally and said, "Ms. Ally, this is my JAM!  Look at my cool dance moves!"
Monkey
During breakfast time, Adam came and sat down next to Miss Diane and said, "Miss Diane, I have Snapchat."

Pandas
Mr. Kenny told the Pandas they would be doing the song, "Cric Cric Croc," and that they were going to be wearing butterfly wings.  Jayden yelled, "Ms. Jen we are going to be butterflies on stage, just like what we are learning about right now!"  Nia said, "Yes, this is so exciting!"  After practicing the song a few times Ethan said to Ms. Kathleen and Ms. Jen, "Wow, the song is like the life cycle that we are learning about!"

Sunflowers
One day during gym time the Sunflowers asked Ms.

Turtles
While the Turtles were walking downstairs for dismissal one day, Adam noticed that there was a piece of paper on the floor.  He then sternly said, "What is this doing here? We have to recycle!!"
