Rocket Report
Vol. 2, No. 35, May 3, 2019
Words with Rush
I have been called upon to fill the space in the Rocket Report normally entitled Words with Wilson. So sit back, relax and see where this literary “gem” takes you!

May is one of my favorite months of the year, and it truly is a special time here at Saint Roch Catholic School. Here are a few of my favorite things that happen here in the month of May:

The second graders have just celebrated their First Holy Communion and are still filled with that excitement and wonder after receiving Jesus’ body and blood for the first time! This year’s First Communion was a beautiful ceremony and the kids really enjoyed their retreat day Monday. Thank you to Mrs. DeArmond, Mrs. Agresta, Mrs. Newton, Mrs. Elam, and Father Hunter for making this day for the kids!

The eighth-grade and second-grade are making their final preparations for May Crowning tomorrow! The excitement and nervousness can be felt each day when they walk over to practice. Tomorrow’s May Crowning is at 1:30 and promises to be a very prayerful and special event. Thanks to Mrs. Chamberlin, Mr. Tindall, Mrs. DeArmond, and Mrs. Elam for their planning and preparation of this special event.

The eighth-grade is preparing to leave for Washington, D.C. on their trip this Tuesday evening. I have enjoyed this trip many times over my years here, and I know this year’s class and parents will have a great time. It is such a blessing that we are able to offer our students this opportunity to visit our nation’s capital. Thanks to Mrs. Chamberlin, all the 8th grade parents, and all the 8th grade students for their work to fund and plan this wonderful trip!

Teacher and Support Staff Appreciation Week, has been celebrated this week at school! The teachers and staff have been spoiled with a special treat each day. Thank you to the PTO, Mrs. Jordan, Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Chamberlin and Student Government for planning and putting this week on for us!

Along with all these great things, we are only a few days away from MayFest and the end of the year.

As we prepare to finish this year up, please take time to enjoy the special events that will take place. Thank you for all the love and support you show us on a daily basis, and thank you for trusting us to educate your children on a daily basis. We are all blessed to have such great parish and school to call home.

Adult Volunteers (and 6th Graders)
We need everyone’s help to make MayFest a success! We are asking that every parent volunteer for at least one shift during Mayfest (if you are a 2 parent household, we need BOTH parents to work a shift). There are MANY people who go above and beyond this request! We have times and opportunities to fit everyone’s schedules. And as usual, we will need people to help work the booths, Monte Carlo area, food areas, etc. Please sign up using the link below.

Sixth grade students wishing to earn service hours may sign up with an adult on this link for Kid’s games only.
7th & 8th Grade Students
Each 7th and 8th grade student is required to work 1 shift during Mayfest. Please note that the sign up has been set up a little differently this year and we are allowing the 7th and 8th graders to work a shift with their peers. We will not be using money for the kids games this year, they will be using punch cards. It is imperative that the students show up for their shifts, be on time, and manage the games responsibly as this is a fundraiser for the school.
