"Ordinary Time is a time for growth and maturation, a time in which the mystery of Christ is called to penetrate ever more deeply into history until all things are finally caught up in Christ" (United States Conference of Bishops).

The great feasts of Easter, the Ascension and Pentecost are now over and the liturgical year has moved into the long summer and fall season of Ordinary Time. However, as the United States Conference of Bishops tells us, we shouldn't regard this as meaning that the movement of Christ and the Spirit in the world and in ourselves is now dormant. Rather, this is the time when those glorious mysteries take root, a time to reflect and grow closer to the God who dwells within us.

The monastery is a calm and peaceful place to tend to your relationship with God. If you would like to join us for worship this summer, we would be delighted. There are also opportunities to stay in the hermitages or to join one of our community retreats. Know that we are always happy to welcome you.

One of the quietest and most sacred places at Saint Benedict's is the monastery cemetery, where most of our sisters are buried. At this time of year, when we have recently remembered those who have served and passed in the line of duty and in the cause of freedom, the monastery cemetery feels particularly special. The rows of crosses and gravestones remind us of the women who have served in Central Minnesota for more than 160 years, sharing the Gospel and Benedictine way of life through their ministry. It's a reminder that we are part of an unbroken chain and, as we reflect on the history these women created, an inspiration to continue the mission into the future.

May your summer be a time of growth and blessing!

Peace ,

Jubilee Celebration at Saint Scholastica
(60 years: back row, l. to r. Ss. Betty Larson, Margaret Madernach, Denise Braegelman, Katherine Howard; front row, l. to r. Ss. Marcella Weber, Mary Rachel Kuebelbeck, Laureen Virnig, Lucinda Mareck and Mary Jackle)

Our jubilarians continued their celebration of 50 and 60 years of dedication to our life at Saint Scholastica Convent, our senior home for the sisters, on May 24. Congratulations to each of them as we continue to seek God together through our community life.

 Sunset Drive Garden

Sunset Drive Garden is growing! S. Shirley Nohner, garden business coordinator, has been processing and responding to applications. We have 25 plots rented (five plots still available). May 22 and 24 were the opening orientation sessions conducted by S. Margaret Wurm, property manager for the monastery, and S. Patricia Ruether, chair of the garden transition team. The people were very enthusiastic and appreciative for this opportunity to have good ground to grow their own vegetables and flowers. They could hardly believe all the amenities available to them.

Planting started at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25, when the plots were marked with names, the watering hoses were in place and the tools in order. Literally, as the bell chimed, gardeners moved in to start their planting! S. Renee Rau, garden site coordinator, has her own plot so is on site part time to answer questions, help find items and offer hospitality. S. Margaret commented that it is so good to see how they stop to chat with each other and share tips. It already is becoming a community.

We frequently partner with the Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity. Three from our office secretarial team, Sisters Helen Weber, Tamra Thomas and Dorothy Manuel along with Sister Pat Ruether in Mission Advancement, did a service project together and helped to clean a house.

In February of this year, our Nun Banquet proceeds benefitted Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity, as well.
