Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As part of Houston Flood Insurance Week, FEMA has agreed to come to west Houston for an open house/town hall event to answer any remaining questions constituents may have about flood claims, the National Flood Insurance Program appeals process, and to provide information on flood insurance going forward in anticipation of the upcoming hurricane season.

The event will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.on Tuesday, June 5th, at the Memorial Church of Christ, 900 Echo Ln., Houston, TX 77024.  This event will be hosted by Texas State Representative Jim Murphy.

FEMA will be available to:
  • answer general flood insurance claim questions (e.g., what items are/aren't covered, information about Increased Cost of Compliance Coverage and how to request it, how to file an appeal with FEMA, how to read your policy)
  • provide additional resources to policyholders who need advocate-type services
  • field inquiries over policies and communicate them directly to policyholder's carriers
  • provide information about preparing for the upcoming hurricane season and how to purchase flood insurance
FEMA will not be:
  • adjudicating appeals
  • determining coverage or making recommendations for payment
  • selling flood insurance
There will be brief remarks from local elected officials, presentations by FEMA staff, an open Q&A session for general questions about the claims process, and opportunities for attendees to visit directly with FEMA staff about their specific issues.

Policyholders with questions or concerns can contact the NFIP Call Center at 1-800-427-4661, visit FEMA's flood claim appeals and guidance webpage at https://go.usa.gov/xQdzp, or learn about FEMA's Office of the Flood Insurance Advocate at https://go.usa.gov/xQdzw.
