Congratulations to CWEE's Director of Employer Engagement Stephanie Pacheco-Davidson, who celebrated 5 years at CWEE last week! Stephanie has an incredible ability to grow CWEE's network and connect us to quality employers. She also represents CWEE in the community and serves on the Denver Women's Commission.

Big thanks to these students from the University of Utah who spent their spring break exploring the Denver nonprofit community and helping get CWEE's First Impressions Boutique into tip-top shape!

Laurie Harvey: William Funk Award Recipient 2018

Last month, in front of 800+ funders, nonprofit executives, business professionals and community members, former CEO/President Laurie Harvey received the William Funk Award for Building Stronger Communities at the Colorado Nonprofit Association's annual awards luncheon. For the past three and a half decades, Laurie has devoted her career to CWEE and to "building a community of fairness, where low-income families can experience support and a path to overcome isolation, find and use their voice and achieve their goals." In her acceptance speech, Laurie took us through a conversation she had recently had with a CWEE participant who was curious to know what a CEO really is. When Laurie described that as CEO she was the leader of CWEE, the participant responded saying "Oh - so you OWN the company." "Well, not exactly," Laurie said. She described that CWEE is a nonprofit organization, funded by foundations, individuals, businesses and the counties, and how we exist to serve the thousands of single parents that have been a part of CWEE's program over the last 35 years. The participant thought for a moment and said, "Oh, I get it, CWEE is owned by the community!" "Yes," Laurie replied "CWEE is owned by the community!" And what a perfect description, both of how CWEE aims to serve the community, and of Laurie's legacy here.

Did you know?

Since July, CWEE has helped more than 175 people gain employment with an average wage of $13.51. That's over $3 above minimum wage! The majority of these positions are also full-time and offer benefits.
CWEE is so proud of participant Elola who recently received her GED! We know you have great things ahead of you, Elola. Congratulations on all of your hard work.
Nearly 30 of CWEE's  employer partners joined us for our Professional Connections event this month. CWEE career seekers were able to meet numerous Denver area business professionals and practice their networking skills! Participants met with individuals in a wide variety of industries, from communications, to finance, to human services.
Congratulations to Michaya, CWEE's latest Wheels to Work recipient! Michaya's refurbished PT Cruiser has given her a new sense of independence, allowing her to "easily go grocery shopping without begging others for help."
Michaya and her two little boys, who are all currently in school, have not been late once since receiving the car. And, they are able to enjoy many more family fun activities now that they have reliable transportation!

CWEE is proud to partner with the Denver Rescue Mission to provide a refurbished vehicle to one participant a month. The Wheels to Work program has been proven to reduce commute time by up to 3-4 hours daily.
