Welcome to the Association of Facilitators (AoF)

Congratulations to our four newest accredited members who followed the newly launched Practitioner Pathway, compiling a Portfolio and attending an Accreditation Day at which they received credit for their experience and learning as a facilitator.  (Our favourite quote: "Phew! Intense but great." See below for more information... and quotes.)

Today is the last day for booking at the Early Bird rate (990 instead of 1390) for our 5-day Foundations in Facilitation Skills programme leading to Accreditation.  Please call us today to reserve a place at this rate.

There are many resources available on our website.  A self-evaluation copy of our competency model FACETS is available to all Guest Members (it is free and simple to register and we do not pass your details on to anyone).

1. Practitioner Pathway to Accreditation...and CONGRATULATIONS!...

... to our newest Accredited Members who followed the Practitioner Pathway (Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning):  Girda, Sue, Sonia and Jeremy.

As part of the process, participants had four weeks to complete a portfolio, guided by our detailed workbook and one-to-one support.  They presented their evidence for Accreditation to AoF, witnessed by each other.  All participants reported how much they had enjoyed and benefited professionally and personally from the rigorous process, and how much they valued the opportunity for reflection and feedback.

For further details and to book one of four places on our next Accreditation Day on 27th October 2014, please contact us.

"I am very proud to be accredited as a level 2 facilitator.  Thanks for your feedback, which is so uplifting and so thought-provoking."

I got so much from the process and from the day. To have [others] there was great in terms of learning about group dynamics."

"I found it such an open and abundant day, not just in terms of the constant supply of lovely food, but the spirit in which you inquired into our style and work"

"Phew! Intense but great."

"Thank you for a really thorough process. Appreciation all round!"

2. 2014 Training Dates (Early Bird Discounts Apply)

Our 5-day Foundations in Facilitation Skills programme will run once more in 2014 (Jun-Sep). The usual cost of the entire programme is 1390 but an early booking discount of 990 is available. Please call us today to reserve a place at this rate.

Places on our stand-alone short courses, The Facilitator's Toolkit (Jun 16-17) and Group Dynamics (Jul 14-15) are also available. This course will be held at a smart and peaceful De Vere venue - Highfield Park, Nr Hook - close to train and M3/M4 links.
3. FACETS

We very much value that our competency model FACETS continues to be 'road-tested' by facilitators interested in their own development and accreditation. The model reflects the fact that facilitation is not merely a one dimensional activity, but has multiple and interrelated layers.

Those seeking accreditation are invited to add competencies that are meaningful for their work and assess themselves against these as well as our core competencies. In addition, we value how the FACETS framework enables participants to choose how to self-assess and we enjoy seeing a variety of Accreditation Statements and Portfolios produced according to each facilitator's style.

F A C E T S is designed as an acronym which  signifies six key areas that we consider to be central to both the skill level and character of practitioners. Thus FACETS also provides a framework for assessing and guiding personal and professional development.

The six FACETS of Facilitation are:

  • Facilitation
  • Awareness
  • Contracting
  • Ethics
  • Theory
  • Support

For more information, see here and/or register as a Guest Member to download a self-evaluation version of FACETS.  This includes self-reflective questions which will give you a flavour of how we work and a sense of how the value of accreditation with us is not just in the label, but also in the process.

"FACETS provided such a helpful structure for accreditation, encompassing elements I might not have remembered or been able to articulate, but which are essential to my work."

"It is refreshing to see self-care identified as a professional value within FACETS."

"I enjoyed being encouraged to reflect on my approach to facilitation and to think about the FACETS capabilities.  Even without the accreditation day, completing the portfolio has been valuable.
