Message from the Principal
Lacey Moser

Dear Hart Families,

It is hard to believe that it is time to start planning for next year. Please click here to provide us feedback as we start to work on class lists for the 2019-2020 school year.

I would like to explain the process for forming class lists. The first step is to get information from you, the parent, on the best classroom environment, teacher personality, and approach for your child. The link also gives you the opportunity to share anything else about your child that would be important for us to know. Your child's current grade level teachers, along with GT teachers, special education teachers, Reading interventionist, Dyslexia teacher, counselor, principal, and assistant principal come together to create class lists for the next year. We use your input, along with your child's current classroom teacher and any other staff that may work with your child, to place your child in the teacher's classroom that would be the best fit. We also ensure that there is a balance of boys and girls and the make-up of the classroom (mix of students) creates the best environment conducive to teaching and learning.

As in the past, there could be teachers who leave, positions added, or movement in teachers to different grade level. Therefore, we cannot guarantee teacher preferences. Please let me know if you have any questions about the process of providing input or creating class lists.

With a Full HeART,
Lacey Moser

It is hard to believe that our school year is nearing an end. Field Day is one of the highlights of the school year for students, faculty and parents. Our Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th. Grade K-2 will be from 8:30 am-11:30 am. Grades 3-4 will be from 11:45-2:45 pm.  In order to make this much anticipated day exciting and successful for our students, we truly need your support. We are currently requesting volunteers. Please click here to volunteer. Please respond by
Monday, May 20.
Confirmation will be going home to volunteers on Thursday, May 23 indicating your field day activity and time slot.

Please have your student wear their grade level t-shirt. If you do not have a grade level shirt, please have your child wear a shirt matching their grade's shirt color. Please make sure your child has sunscreen, a water bottle, dry clothes, hat, and towel. Several events will be water related. Students are encouraged to wear water shoes or bring dry shoes for after the event.

We are looking forward to a fun, safe and memorable field day! If you have any questions, please email Coach Hill eric_hill@lovejoyisd.net.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Fairness is one of those values that is so basic, yet can be incredibly challenging to act upon when dealing with children. It is a quality that must be constantly re-examined and reinforced as children encounter increasingly complex developmental stages and social situations.  We will be discussing fairness and equality in guidance over the next several weeks.

Play by the rules.
Take turns and share.
Be open-minded. Listen to others.
Don't take advantage of others.
Don't blame others carelessly.

Kids can often complain that things "aren't fair" when things don't work out as they want. One way to help teach fairness is to promote compromise. Compromise is creating a "win-win" situation and finding a balance between the different needs of individuals. Compromise is essentially an "I want, you want, we could" process. Depending on their age and/or maturity, some children will find compromise difficult. You may need to help them work through the issue. Keep in mind that you aren't just helping them get through the current disagreement, but teaching them a strategy for fairness that they will be able to use throughout their lives. T.E.A.M.

Tips for home

Teach: Talk to your child about compromise using the tool below.
Enforce: Consistently apply rules. Make expectations clear and predictable.
Advocate: Involve children in developing rules they are to follow.
Model: Be a good role model by compromising and being open-minded.

SUMMER BIRTHDAYS

Each day on the morning announcements, we recognize birthdays. Weekend birthdays are announced on Friday. In the month of May, we announce the summer birthday on the corresponding date. For example, May 1st we recognize June, July and August 1st birthdays, May 2nd we recognize June, July and August 2nd birthdays, etc. In planning summer birthday celebration/treats in the classroom, this might be a great day to do this if you would like - It helps spread out the celebrations this last month of school. We have a lot of summer birthdays! Please be mindful of students with food allergies! As always, please notify your child's teacher prior to sending treats. Thank you!!!

Library News

Notices will be coming home more frequently regarding overdue books. Be on the lookout for books that might have been missing for a while and return as soon as possible. Click here for the Revtrak link.  All library books checked out this school year are due by May 17th.
Please contact Suzanne Hart or Michele Fox if you have questions about missing books.

Thank you!

Message from the Nurse:

NEW: If your child has physical restrictions from activity, please email Coach Eric Hill, eric_hill@lovejoyisd.net. Contacting Coach directly will ensure the limitation is noted and alternate plans can be made.
Thank you!

We are currently seeing mostly allergies, some strep and a stomach virus that is lasting approx. 1-3 days-predominate symptoms seem to nausea/vomiting, headache, diarrhea and slight to moderate sore throat. Most are not having fever with this virus.

We ask that children be free from fever without medicine, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school to prevent illnesses from spreading. Fever is considered 100.0 or greater. If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email Alis_Brantl@lovejoyisd.net and Heather_Bouska@lovejoyisd.net with the date and reason for the absence. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.

Please click here to view the Lovejoy link (under the Clinic Department for Hart) for more helpful Flu information.

NEW!!!!

We invite you to join us in The Leopards Lair on May 7, 2019. We will have a PTA membership meeting beginning at 10:00 am. Following the membership meeting (11:00 am), Sloan Creek Principal, Ray Winkler will join Lacey Moser to answer questions regarding Mastery Learning. They will discuss cell phone polices, 5th grade camp out, STAAR testing and anything else you would like to discuss. This is open to ALL Hart Elementary parents. It will be a wonderful opportunity to have your questions and concerns addressed.

One way to check in a little faster is to RSVP ahead of time to Heather Bouska at heather_bouska@lovejoyisd.net.  If you have come through the office this year, you only need to send your name.  If you have
not had an opportunity to check in through the office this year, you can send a picture of your ID for manual entry.  Mrs. Bouska will then print out your sticker badge and you pick it up from the front desk. This should help speed up the process.

NEW!!! Important News from Student Nutrition Regarding Student Meal Accounts
This is a courtesy message from Lovejoy Student Nutrition Services to inform households of an upcoming change in student meal accounts. In an effort to minimize negative balances at the end of the school year, beginning Wednesday, May 8 and for the remainder of the school year, students will no longer be able to charge meals which will result in the student incurring a negative balance to their meal account. Students may continue to use their lunch accounts as long as they have money in the account. Households with students who currently have negative balances will receive reminder emails and phone calls. Federal regulations prohibit us from rolling over negative balances to the next school year. Please make arrangements to remit payment for any negative lunch accounts your child may have incurred.

All positive balances will be rolled over to next school year. If you have a graduating senior, funds may be transferred to any sibling in the school district. To request a meal account refund, please complete a refund request form located on the Student Nutrition website. For assistance, please contact Student Nutrition at 469.742.8041.

Student Nutrition Services thanks you for your understanding and for allowing us to serve your student(s) this school year.
