New technologies have upended long-held notions of the brain's ability to grow and change and are allowing us to peer into the brain's structure and function.  Mental health counselors are harnessing these discoveries into interventions such as mindfulness, meditation, neurotherapy, and neurofeedback.  These strategies will be demonstrated, discussed, and practiced. This is Bradley course ENC 608 - Brain-Based Counseling Interventions.  Participants are requested to purchase or rent Neurocounseling: Brain-Based Clinical Approaches (ISBN 9781556203640) from the Bradley Bookstore or local and online retailers.

$45 - facilitated by Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin, nationally recognized leader on neurocounseling, and professor, Department of Leadership in Education, Nonprofits, and Counseling at Bradley University. (Returning facilitator/new group)

Register online, or call the Continuing Education office at (309) 677-3900.

Why Our Donors Give to OLLI

We're about six weeks away from the end of OLLI's fiscal year, and by May 31, we hope to have a 50% giving rate to our learning community.   We are so very close ... as of today, we need 200 more people to donate to meet this goal!

If you haven't yet given this year (June 2017 to today), please watch this video to see why others do ... and learn how your donation, no matter the amount, will build a sustainable OLLI  that benefits YOU now, and helps FUTURE members participate in our learning community.

- 2-liter bottles
- medium-sized plastic jars (such as peanut butter, etc.)
- shoeboxes
- cereal boxes
- rinsed soda cans

If you are able to share any of the items on this list, please bring them to Spring classes, and drop them off at the registration desk.  Or  you can drop them off at the Continuing Education building (corner of Main and University streets) any time between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday.

And watch for updates to this list.  Teachers are updating their requests weekly.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Monday, April 23
6:30 p.m.

Dr. Heidemarie Kaiser Laurent will discuss how stress dysregulation and associated mental health difficulties are transmitted across generations, and how we can potentially stem the tide of such transmission.    She will present research she has conducted on the origins of risk, in particular, how stress responsive systems are calibrated by the early caregiving environment and how this translates into mental health vulnerabilities.    She will also present evidence that mindfulness - present-moment nonjudgmental awareness - may improve stress regulation in parents and children.
