TOPIC:

The Law Enforcement Profession has changed since the events in Ferguson and Baltimore. The Final Report of the President's Task Force on 21 st Century Policing points out how the mission of law enforcement is "to build trust between citizens and law enforcement so that all components of a community are treating one another fairly and justly and are invested in maintaining public safety in an atmosphere of mutual respect." Therefore, familiarization with communication styles, customs, language, and behavior patterns of various cultures, ethnic groups and non-traditional populations will effectively enhance the quality of police services and the agency's image. Shared knowledge of various populations will enhance officer safety and is likely to increase understanding and empathy in the process of improving law enforcement/citizen contact. Smart policing takes effective training not just diversity.

This One-Day Class will provide a real look at the 21 st Century Policing Model. It includes Community Relations, Trust Building, Human/Cultural Diversity, Ethical Decision-Making Skills and Officer Safety. To assist law enforcement professionals in meeting the challenges, this training was designed by a law enforcement professional, human relations specialist, a life strategies coach, a communications expert and crisis management professionals with extensive training experience.

SUBJECTS COVERED:
  • A review of the 21st Century Policing Document.
  • The recruitment, hiring and training of new officers from a diverse cross-section of the community and the importance of on-going training throughout the officer's career.
  • Understand the importance of building trust in the community and that relationships matter.
  • Understand the importance of officer safety and wellness and how stress and trauma can affect the decision-making process. Administrators must ensure that officers have access to tools and training to keep them safe.
  • Understanding Human and Cultural Diversity as it relates to the communities we protect and serve.
  • Understanding and addressing implicit or unconscious bias.
  • The impact of the Warrior and Guardian Mindset and the use of force vs the use of de-escalation skills.
