Orbital Testing Begins for Advanced Small Spacecraft Communications

The NASA Small Spacecraft Technology Program's Integrated Solar and Reflectarray Antenna, or ISARA, and Optical Communications and Sensor Demonstration, or OCSD, spacecraft recently completed systems checkout and have moved into the operational phase to demonstrate a number of technology firsts.
T
he Optical Communications and Sensor Demonstration (OCSD) small spacecraft mission will enable multiple small spacecraft to operate cooperatively during science or exploration missions, to approach another spacecraft or object for in-space observation or servicing, or to connect small spacecraft together to form larger systems or networks in space.

FCC Releases Enforcement Advisory on Compliance with Satellite Communications Licensing Requirements

On Thursday, April 12, 2018, the FCC released an Enforcement Advisory on "
COMPLIANCE WITH SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS LICENSING REQUIREMENTS." The referenced requirements are mandatory, and failure to comply can result in enforcement action. For more information about the included small satellite licensing requirements, see:

focuses on concepts and technologies to enable the small payload community to meet future launch needs and test new capabilities in a cost-effective manner. The symposium has evolved into a forum where the launch services community interacts with the small spacecraft community in a focused, working environment to address the needs of the community for affordable small payload access to space and the impediments hampering its success.
This year's symposium will highlight rideshares for swarms and constellations, as well as rideshares for beyond low Earth orbit. Aerospace companies, agencies, and individuals are encouraged to attend to network and present their respective small payload-related ideas and opportunities.
