With live music, a silent auction, pie and donut eating contests, sumo wrestling, superheroes, speeches, head shaving and more, the 2018 St. Baldrick's fundraiser, organized by students at the School of Medicine, was more festive than ever.

Jillson Receives Matteo Ricci Prize
Irene Jillson, PhD, associate professor in the School of Nursing & Health Studies, has been awarded the Matteo Ricci Prize by the Carroll Fellows Initiative. The prize recognizes leaders at Georgetown who have followed in the footsteps of 16th century priest Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit missionary who paved the way for connecting Eastern and Western cultures, and who embody the Carroll motto, "the life of the mind for the life of the world."
The Georgetown University Task Force on Gender Equity is responsible for developing recommendations on ways the university can promote gender equity among faculty and senior leadership. Members of the task force from Georgetown University Medical Center include Kristi Graves, PhD, Carole Roan Gresenz, PhD, Miriam Toporowicz, MD, MPH, Judy Huei-Yu Wang, PhD, Edilma L. The Lewy Body Dementia Association has designated Georgetown University Medical Center as a "Research Center of Excellence." GUMC joins 23 other centers chosen for their clinical expertise in Lewy body dementia, experience running clinical trials in related conditions, their facility's capacity and willingness to participate, and their geographic locations.
Georgetown's Center for Global Health Science and Security joined global health researchers at the Georgetown University Medical Center to create a web-based tool that allows public health officials to make predictions about the cost-effectiveness and other implications of international disease control measures, based on local conditions and political constraints.

Georgetown University's Health Justice Alliance, O'Neill Institute, and Harrison Institute for Public Law convened a meeting of professionals and scholars working in health care and oral health to bring awareness to the lack of access to oral health care for children with special health care needs, particularly those from low-income areas of Washington, DC.
