Microsoft Ending Support for Windows 7 and Office 2010

If you happen to be one of thousands of customers who are using Windows 7 or Office 2010,  this news from Microsoft is of high importance to you. For those who are operating the aforementioned programs, support will be ending on January 14, 2020.

Microsoft has already begun to send out notifications to users, so those operating these  programs should expect to see them. While the notification itself is not something to worry about,  it should be taken seriously.

What does it mean for me?

The end of service means that users who are running either or both systems will no longer receive support through Microsoft, including vital security updates.  This could possibly make your systems more vulnerable to the ever-changing landscape of cyber threats like ransomware, viruses and malware.

Users will still be able to prevent their data and devices from being infected through the use of antivirus and good user practices, but no patch will be coming to prevent hackers or bots from using new exploits. This means that while you could choose to continue to use Windows 7 and Office 2010, doing so may be putting your information at an  increased risk.

What can I do about it?

To better to protect your information and devices, it is recommended that users begin to  transition to Windows 10 and more recent versions of Office respectively. These programs have the latest updates  and protection available. Any business still operating these programs should budget to make this transition.
