June Guest Preachers
June is a great month to hear some top notch preaching here at Advent!
On June 3, Rev. Drew Tucker, University Pastor at Capital University will be guest preaching. Pastor Tucker is new to Capital since last fall and the students at both the undergraduate and seminary levels love him! We look forward to meeting him Sunday.

On June 17 daughter of this congregation and Princeton Seminary student Jessica Cronau will be preaching for us.

On June 24 we will hear from Pastor Will Saunders, who retired as the pastor of Advent a few years ago but hasn't dropped a beat when it comes to preaching the good news of Christ! His style of preaching is infectious and his love of Christ is contagious!

These are certainly DON'T WANT TO MISS SUNDAYS! Mark your calendars today!
This Sunday, This Week
2nd Sunday after Pentecost
Deuteronomy makes clear that sabbath-keeping is meant for the welfare of all. God delivered the Israelites out of slavery, so they should not ever work anyone else seven days a week. Even slaves should be able to rest; even resident aliens. Yet human beings can turn even the most liberating religious practice into a life-destroying rule. Jesus does not reject sabbath-keeping, but defends its original life-enhancing meaning. Our worship and our religious way of life are to lead to the hungry being fed and the sick being healed.

The annual Advent tag sale is coming soon -- on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16. Come and join us for a good time! Sign up to help our visitors check out with their treasures. You can be a sorter, a packer or a money taker. Prior experience not needed. Flexible hours. Most people work 2-4 hour shifts, but shifts can be as long or short as you like.

The sale begins at 9:00 am both days, but we ask first shift workers on Friday to come at 8:30 to be sure we are ready for the rush of early shoppers. Closing is at 3:00 on Friday and 2:00 on Saturday.

Contact Diane Yoder at 614-581-4114 (cell) if you have questions or to choose the day and times that work best for you. The schedule will fill quickly. No kidding! People who have done this "job" before have such a good time, they come back each year. So get in touch with Diane soon to get your preferred spot(s).

Stewardship Matters
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS - TIME & TALENTS

Good Stewardship is not just about money. Good Stewardship is a way of life.

Oftentimes, we think of a Church Stewardship program in terms of money & finances. A “steward” however is more broadly defined as one who oversees property, supplies, and services. So Christian Stewardship includes not only the oversight of money and property but also human capital – our time and talents.

Advent’s Mission Statement is to Worship God, Follow Jesus, Serve Others, & Make Disciples. Our Mission Statement is not passive – it is intentionally action oriented. Ours is a living faith. Following his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples in Galilee and said to them, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:18-19

Advent members and friends contribute thousands of hours each year to the support of our Mission. For details on some of the ways that you can support our Mission please see the current Activities & Ministries Directory which can be found under the “Serve” tab of our website www.adventelc.org or talk to Pastor Aaron, our volunteer coordinator, Beckie Evans-Zaebst, or any member of our Congregation Council or staff about your interests.

As we make our financial commitments to Advent’s Mission for the next fiscal year, we are also asking our members to prayerfully consider a commitment of their time and talents in support of our Mission. What gifts of your time & talents can you share with our faith community? What is the Holy Spirit calling you to do? Acts 1:8

Coming Soon
Our annual congregational meeting is on Sunday, June 10 beginning at 9:45a. We will be voting on Council Members and our annual budget.
On June 10-15 our Confirmation Class along with Pastor Layne will be heading to Lutheran Memorial Camp for a week of faith, friends, and fun!

Please keep fellow Advent member Hannah Demaree, as she is the Program Director at LMC!
Please join us on June 3 after both worship services in the Fellowship Hall as we honor all of our talented musicians at Advent.
Help us give praise and thanksgiving to all who have given of their time and talents to help our music department to thrive this year.
During the summer, there will be special music including ensembles and small groups. Let Jean know if you are interested in providing special music for a service or two. Choir will begin again in late August.
The Wired Word is an easy way to keep your faith going even while on summer vacation!
Whether you are on a vacation or stay-cation, we want to help make staying close to God easy! The Wired Word takes current events from the week and relates them to Scripture. It's an easy way to stay connected to God, and a great study to do by yourself or with others, whether you are at home or away!

VBS Work Nights

Calling all volunteers! Please join us on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 29, 2018 for VBS work nights. Contact  Allison Ollanketo  with any questions.
Advent Connects
Before and After
For quite a while now our basketball hoop hasn't been looking its best. So Pastor Aaron got some paint and a ladder and started. And just like a pickup game game of basketball, there was some pickup help to reach those high places Pastor Aaron couldn’t. Thanks to Mike Deeter, Carl Lahman, and Chris Baran for the assists!
Birthday Blessings
