LAAC Advocacy Update

LAAC is closely following and supporting 2 important legal aid funding bills:
  • AB 330 (Gabriel) will expand funding for the Shriver Pilot projects to more than double their current level.
  • AB 1060 (Gray) will make mandatory the current opt-out of $40 on attorney dues statements to go to funding legal aid.
Thank you to everyone that has already contacted your legislator in support of these bills! If you haven't yet, there is still time. Both bills will go to an Assembly floor vote soon. Contact Lorin Kline at [email protected] for information about how you can support.

LAAC's  Self-Care Corner

In  Jeena Cho's article in the ABA Journal  on lawyers, mindfulness, and rethinking reactions to stress, she discusses the fact that, in our often overwhelming profession, we might not feel like we have the skills or tools to deal with our anxiety and stress that arises on a daily basis.

We can try to build a practice of mindfulness to allow ourselves more options than just automatic thoughts and behaviors.  Check out the article to learn more about interrupting the steady pattern of anxious thoughts and the ways that we can intentionally create a new normal of thoughtful responses and reactions.
