"My experience during and after the MMCCU program was significant and life-changing. Not only did I receive a world-class graduate degree, but I also developed a co-operative network I've maintained to this day. The education, both academic, and practical, in global co-operative affairs positioned me to be a better co-operative leader in my organization. Personally, I connected with my values on sustainability, social enterprise, and elevating the human condition as a co-operator in a global movement. I would recommend this program to anyone interested in alternative business models and global economic issues."

JOURNAL FEATURES MASTER'S GRADUATES

IJCAM Vol 2 No 1
We are proud to showcase the contributions of two of our Master's graduates, Wayne Schatz (Vice President and General Counsel - Operations & Distribution-  of The Co-operators Insurance) & Eric Gosselin (co-founder of a multistakeholder community bike shop, Coop Vélo-Cité) who were recently pushed in the second volume of the International Journal of Co-operative Accounting & Management  (December, 2019).

Schatz's paper  " Five critical things every co-operative leader should know" (p.38)
shares and examines important learnings to guide emerging co-operative leaders in their day-to-day operational and strategic planning  and decision-making.

Gosselin's paper,  "' The Fuzzy Feeling Isn't There': Version One of the Co-operative Performance Indicator Tool Misses the Mark for Micro Co-ops"  (p. 64)  interrogates the suitability of newly developed Co-operative Performance Indicator (CPI) tool for three community bicycle shop co-operatives in order to examine its broader applicability to micro, non-profit co-ops.

These papers are the outcome of the final independent research project of the Masters of Management, Co-operatives and Credit Unions Program. This project gives students the opportunity to apply what they learn throughout the program to their co-operative or credit union, or to the co-operative sector more widely.
CANADA DE 2019 GRADUATE LAUNCHES COMMUNITY INITIATIVE TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE

Cletus Dunn is a board member of Tignish Credit Union and CanadaDE Credit Union Leadership Program 2019 graduate. In recent months he initiated a new community-co-operative project named "Our Future-Our Water" which will see water dispensers installed in community spaces across the town of Tignish, Prince Edward Island to reduce waste from disposable plastic water bottles and support green alternatives.

After participating in CanadaDE - at Saint Mary's University in June 2019 -  Dunn was inspired to initiate a project with his credit union that addresses the UN Sustainable Development Goals, leverages co-operative principles and contributes to positive community impact. Concerned about plastic pollution in the ocean and repercussions for the local fishery in his island community, Dunn felt that reducing single use plastic was fitting place to focus his efforts.

Many congratulations to Dunn, Tignish Credit Union and community partners for getting "Our Future - Our Water" off the ground!
