Dover Children's Home Celebrates 125 Years of Service
It was 125 years ago last week when a group of women formed a charitable organization named the Dover Children's Home. Thirteen women had started caring for abused, neglected and unwanted children the year before at a house on Atkinson Street. After it incorporated, it moved to Spring Street, as the number of children it housed continued to grow. In 1898, when its current house at 207 Locust St. was finished and ready for occupancy, 38 children moved in, according to its history. In the Great Depression, its numbers swelled to more than 60.

It has since transformed from an orphanage into a resident care facility, providing case management and therapeutic services for up to 12 vulnerable youth that range from 10 to 20 years old.

NEMO Heightens Outdoor Adventure Experience
A random mailing containing a bunch of stickers gave Cam Brensinger the inspirational maxim that underscores the mission of his NEMO Equipment. Included among the stickers were directions such as "express checkout." But one sticker stood out, one he attached to his conference room table: "design like you give a damn."

It is a way for Brensinger to remind his employees they should walk the walk and talk the talk in designing products they themselves would be confident in using for their own outdoor adventures. NEMO designs, makes and sells equipment, such as tents and sleeping bags, as part of the outdoor industry responsible for about $887 billion yearly in consumer spending.

Dover Scout Project Makes Difference at Hyder House
This year Dover Girl Scout Troop #2274 chose Hyder Family Hospice House as the recipient of their project "It's Your Community. Change It." Troop Leader Jen Beach contacted Elaine Case, founder/executive director, Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House, to discuss what the girls could do for the "guests" at Hyder House.
