How to Get People To The Doctor When They Don't Want to Go

"Gurven has visited and studied the Tsimane people for 16 years. Last month, he and colleagues published a paper in the journal Social Science & Medicine on why these impoverished people, who live an average of just over 50 years (compared to the world average of 71.5), often won't take advantage of medical care, even when it's free and offered by people they've come to trust.

"What the researchers found offers some clues about why many of us resist going to the doctor when things like rashes, coughs and pains make it pretty clear that we should."

This Venture Capitalist is Focused on the Oldest and Sickest People in America

"While running the Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid, Slavitt did not lie awake at night worrying whether the prototypical Fitbit or Apple Watch user met their step goals. People with chronic conditions, like diabetes and heart disease, account for 86 percent of America's health care costs.

"'We need to talk about real human problems,' he said."

New York's Freegans Expose the Waste of Our Food Systems

"On a recent night in New York City, a group of foragers pulled 50 perfectly edible bagels and a bag of untarnished, fresh produce out of the garbage. And that's just the beginning."

Delivering Community Benefit: Healthy Food Playbook

"If a facility has identified obesity, food access, or diet-related health conditions among the priority health needs in its community health needs assessment (CHNA), then initiatives to promote healthy food access and increased consumption of fruits and vegetables can be important components of an implementation strategy to address these needs.

"The playbook has several sections with resources to support different stages of the community benefit or community health planning process. Each resource provides examples and links to learn more."

New Scottsdale Playground More Accessible for Kids with Disabilities

"When Vicki Leonard brings her son Dylan to a park, it's not always guaranteed to be a good time.

"'It was always challenging to go to playgrounds when he was littler just because of the fact that he's - you can clearly see he's different," Leonard said.

"Dylan, 13, is deaf, has cerebral palsy and autism."
