We invite our parents and guardians to respond to the Monroe County Schools annual parent survey.  The survey is open now through Friday, May 18 at 4 p.m.  This survey is your opportunity to provide feedback regarding you and your child's experiences here in Monroe County Schools.  We use your input for our strategic plans and our governance guidance.  If you are sharing comments about a specific school or program, don't forget to include details for us in those comments.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey located at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/1718MCSPARENT

MCBOE Recognizes Young Georgia Author Writing Winners and Spelling Bee Winners
The Board of Education recognized Young Georgia Author contest winners and system spelling bee winners at last week's regularly scheduled meeting. To see a complete listing of winners at system and regional levels, click here.  Pictured below are this year's System Spelling Bee winners.  Jhaviar Locus - 1st Place Winner Monroe County Middle School, sixth grader; Hannah Simpson- Runner-Up Monroe County Middle School , sixth grader.  In each picture, winners are pictured with Assistant Superintendent Alicia Elder, MCBOE Chairman Nolan Howard, and Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman. 

 
Proof of Residency Is Open and
Ready for Parents to Complete

Because of the upcoming remodel of Central Office beginning this summer, there will be very limited opportunity for face-to-face Proof of Residency.  Parents/Guardians are encouraged to complete the process online. Proof of residency documentati on will be collected via the Infinite Campus Online Registration (OLR) Application beginning Tuesday, May 1, 2018.  Parents are encouraged to upload proof of residency documents as soon as the window opens. To complete this process you will need to:
  • ensure you have an email address on file with your child's school.
  • activate an Infinite Campus Portal account.
Your child's school is prepared to assist you with any questions you may have regarding this process.  Below, you will find a link to the web page containing these instructions and a presentation providing step-by-step instructions regarding the use of OLR for this process.  You can navigate through the steps manually and pause the presentation, as needed.

New students who enrolled during the 2018-2019 PreK and Kindergarten registration process will not be required to complete this process during the summer.
Parents without an active Infinite Campus Portal account should check their email for a message from " icmessenger@mcschools.org."  This email contains the activation link needed to create your Infinite Campus Portal account.

Summer Time is Reading Time:  Literacy Resources for Our Students and Families

MP FFA competed in National Homesite Evaluation and National Landjudging  
Mary Persons High School FFA competed in National Homesite Evaluation and National Landjudging Competitions on May 3rd in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This was the 66th year the Oklahoma Soil and Water Conservation Service, 4-H, FFA, and adults from 33 states competed.  Each state can send up to five teams to compete in each division.  
Mary Persons FFA teams arrived in Stillwater, Oklahoma and practiced Monday afternoon.  On Tuesday morning, our teams traveled to Oklahoma City for two days of practice leading up to the national competition on Thursday.  
Our Landjudging team qualified for the national contest by winning FFA State Championship in November.  At the national contest, the team placed 29th out of 100 FFA landjudging teams from all over the country.  
Our Homesite Team was the 2017 State Winning Landjudging team.  In the National Homesite Division, our team placed 20th out of 54 teams.  



Public Notice:  Destruction of Old Special Education Records Scheduled
The Monroe County Public School will be destroying old Special Education records in July 2018. The records scheduled to be destroyed are for persons who were served in special education and born in 1996. If you desire to have your records, please contact the Department of Instructional Student Support 478-994-2031 x1604 or x1605.  Records not picked up by August 1, 2018 will be destroyed.

Message from Monroe County Schools Nurses: Diseases from mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas
According to the CDC, disease cases from mosquito, tick, and flea bites tripled in the United States from 2004-2016.  Over 640,000 cases of disease spread by mosquitoes and ticks were reported, and nine new germs were introduced to the US in that time.  Take precautions to keep you and your family safe.
