Despite helpful efforts from Statesboro's Jumping Place Skydiving Center our patient Mrs. W. was really too ill to fulfil her lifelong dream of skydiving.  But not to be deterred, volunteer coordinator Christy and volunteer Teri Yarbrow, Professor of Digital Media and Immersive Reality at Savannah's College of Art & Design  made her wish come true! Teri created a Virtual Reality experience which closely replicates the feeling of jumping out of an airplane, falling and floating gently through the air.

Our Edel Caregiver Institute's coordinator Jill recently received a touching email from the daughter of a woman recently diagnosed with dementia. "I can't tell you how much better I feel just having talked to you this afternoon. Your reassuring words made me realize that there are people who understand just what we're going through and can help us find our way. It's so new and heart wrenching right now...to know that a person who gave you life and who has been your best friend and role model will be slipping away a little at a time. But I'm going to try to handle it the best that I can. I want to help my mom like she's always helped me. But I know I can't do it alone."

In one fostering case, we had a patient who was being taken care of at home, but who later had to move into our inpatient Hospice House. The family was unable to keep her two dogs. Jackie fostered them until, after a few months, she found a suitable home for one. However it was another six weeks before the other was placed in a "fur-ever" home. The patient had been so worried about her beloved dogs; the day after we told her the second dog had found a home, she passed away. Thank you Jackie for giving her, and her pets, the gift of "peace of mind."
