Congratulations to Jackie Tatum who was recently named runner-up National Pet Peace of Mind© Volunteer of the Year. Starting out as a Hug-A-Pet volunteer with her certified therapy dog Vanilla in 2015, she quickly became more involved with our
Pet Peace of Mind© program
by fostering pets, promoting awareness, and soliciting donations for the program.
In one fostering case, we had a patient who was being taken care of at home, but who later had to move into our inpatient Hospice House. The family was unable to keep her two dogs. Jackie fostered them until, after a few months, she found a suitable home for one. However it was another six weeks before the other was placed in a "fur-ever" home. The patient had been so worried about her beloved dogs; the day after we told her the second dog had found a home, she passed away.
Thank you Jackie for giving her, and her pets, the gift of "peace of mind."
