Notes from the Rector in the Interim
by The Rev. Kathryn Costas

Thank you to everyone who participated in the gatherings, Going Forward: the Next Steps.  We had about 60 folks participate.  In July we will put together what came out of those meetings and focus on our next steps.  There is still time to participate in one final gathering if you have not done so. Please let me ( [email protected] ) or the office know if you want to be included in the final gathering. It is a 3 1/2 - 4 hour commitment.

Conversations with the Rector
Following the services on June 9 and 10 and again on June 16 and 17 I will meet with folks in the Sanctuary to have conversations about what it means to be a welcoming church (June 9 & 10) and "people first, labels second: what LGBTQ+ really means"(June 16 & 17).  Please join me

Healing offered this weekend

Prayers for healing will be offered at the Saturday 5pm and Sunday 10am services during communion, with the anointing with oil and the laying on of hands.

Pick up your Parish Directory in the Commons (during services) or the Office (during the week)

Friday Lunch seeks team leader
Do you like to cook?  Do you miss preparing and sharing a meal for guests?  Would you like to get involved in a vital community outreach at Grace Church, but only do it episodically?  The Friday Community Meal is looking for a team coordinator that serves the FIRST FRIDAY of the month.  The coordinator plans the menu and shops for food.  They make sure their volunteers are ready for cooking, serving and cleaning duties.  The time spent at Grace on that given Friday is usually about 3 hours.  Planning and shopping is based on how efficient or elaborate you might get with the menu!  There is a group of "seasoned" volunteer s for the FIRST FRIDAY and they are hoping a new leader is out there for them.  Two people could also share team leader duties if that would work...Please prayerfully consider this ministry and contact Kate Wood with questions or to volunteer!   [email protected]   or 941-5785.

Pastoral Care at Grace
In order to address pastoral care needs of the whole parish, not only those who are ill, homebound, or otherwise unable to be physically present for church services, we are currently in the process of re-visioning how we can more effectively tend to those needs. In order to move forward with our plans, we would like to identify which service each of us usually attends. Please take the time to fill out a blank white card (located on the table in the Commons, next to the basket) with your current contact information, the names of those in your household, and which service you attend, and place the card in the basket. Thank you!

Meijer Double Match Day to benefit local food pantries is Friday, June 1

The Grace Jubilee Ministries Food Pantry is a member of the Northwest Food Coalition, a coalition comprised of 60 pantries and meal sites in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Wexford counties. The coalition's mission is to empower member food programs by coordinating and creating resources to achieve regional food security.

Since 2008, Meijer stores have conducted several Simply Give Campaigns each year to support area food pantries and baby pantries. For the 2018 Spring Campaign, which runs from May 13 to June 17, the Meijer stores in Acme and Traverse City teamed up and selected the Northwest Food Coalition as its recipient. During this time, customers will be encouraged to purchase one or more $10 Simply Give donation cards upon checkout at both stores. The donation cards are a tool that Meijer uses to administer the program and have no value. Once purchased, the customer will be given a receipt for their donation and the donation will be doubled and converted by Meijer into a Meijer Gift Card which Meijer will give directly to the Coalition upon completion of the campaign. The Meijer gift cards will be used by the Coalition member pantry coordinators to purchase food and other eligible items for distribution at their pantries.

Simply Give Double Match Day  is June 1
Meijer will double match every customer's $10 Simply Give donation, up to a maximum of $25,000. What does this mean" $25,000 in customer donations on June 1 will result in Meijer Gift Cards for the Coalition!

Please direct your donation to the Grace Jubilee Ministries Food Pantry, please save your checkout receipt and either drop it off at the Grace Church office or give it to Nancy Johnson, food pantry coordinator. A covered plastic jar is available in the office for receipts (photo copies accepted) and/or monetary donations which Nancy Johnson will turn in at Meijer for a receipt. The money will be used at the Grace Food Pantry for holiday basket outreach.

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING HUNGER RELIEF EFFORTS IN OUR COMMUNITY

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
