More than 500 people voted in the 2019 Imagination Celebration "People's Choice" poster art contest, Chanmi Kim's design, "Adventure," was the winner. She is in 11th Grade at Bolsa Grande School in the Garden Grove School District, where her art teacher is Reema Zoumut. The annual countywide Imagination Celebration festival of arts for families and children runs through May 26.

"Brother Joe" Zawierucha, acclaimed percussionist who was also well known as an music educator with his "Too Many Bongos" program, has died at 79, according to the OC Musicians' Union AFM Local 7. More photos

CSUF's GLADYS KARES Retires
|
After 41 years teaching dance and choreographing at California State University, Fullerton, Gladys Kares, 69, is retiring. The beloved professor was born in South Africa to a father who survived Auschwitz and a mother who was in the Resistance. They eventually moved to California, and Kares was a performer in the the Gloria Newman Dance Theater, where she later became Assistant Director. Read more

CHILD CREATIVITY LAB APPOINTS LEE SHAAR AS NEW CEO
|
Child Creativity Lab (CCL) has appointed Cherylee "Lee" Shaar as its new CEO. A former CCL board member, Lee is an accomplished attorney, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She practiced law in the areas of dependency and delinquency, advising troubled youth and families in crisis and represented special needs children in their education matters. Lee is also the Founder and Director of the Mariners Church Legal Ministry. She received a B.A. in Political Science from Colorado State University in 1994, and a J.D. from the University of Denver, College of Law in 1997.
