Project Spotlight:
Lockport to Larose Valentine Return Levee
The NLLD's Lockport to Larose Valentine Return Levee Project is creating a return levee from near Bayou L'Bleu towards Highway 1, which will intersect the 5-foot contour line along Bayou Lafourche. This return levee intersects with the Lockport to Larose Hurricane Protection Levee providing additional flood controls within the system.

Contractor Low Land Construction is currently moving material to build up the return levee on the 40 Arpent Canal Side of the project. See the latest construction progress in the video above.
NLLD and MAC Meet with the Governor

NLLD President Cory Kief and Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois joined other members of the Morganza Action Coalition for a meeting with Governor John Bel Edwards in March. The group is requesting state funding for the $22 million Grand Bayou Floodgate that will link the Lafourche and Terrebonne levee segments of Morganza to the Gulf.

"Governor Edwards seems to appreciate the work and the tax dollars that our local communities have invested in our levee and floodgate systems and he expressed his support for continued efforts to protect ourselves and our homes and businesses," said Bourgeois.

Attending the meeting were (pictured left to right) NLLD President Cory Kief, Morganza Project Manager Mitch Marmande, Sen. Norby Chabert, Terrebonne Levee District Executive Director Reggie Dupre, Governor Edwards, South Lafourche Levee District General Manager Windell Curole, MAC Managing Consultant Lori LeBlanc, NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois, Rep. Truck Gisclair, and MAC President Jay Walker.
Coastal Official Recognizes Work of NLLD
Chip Kline, Deputy Director of the Governor's Office of Coastal Activities, gave a presentation to the Bayou Industrial Group at its April 9 luncheon.

Kline specifically recognized the North Lafourche Levee District and Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois for the work they are doing to strengthen flood protection in our region.

"It can be argued that Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes are the epicenter of the Coastal Master Plan," Kline said.

About the NLLD
The North Lafourche Conservation, Levee, and Drainage District (known as NLLD) was formed in 1992 to provide drainage and flood protection services for the northern portion of Lafourche Parish, including the entire parish north of the Intracoastal Canal.   The District includes over 250 miles of levees and drainage canals, and over 40 pump stations.
