Et voilà! Students from College Vauban are visiting in April!

Ever since 2015, our exchange project with Vauban Middle School in Belfort, France, has evolved and our ties are stronger than ever with the signature of an agreement between the two schools, AND the realization of our ultimate goal - individual student mobility – with nine French students coming to Charlottesville in April, and one or maybe more Peabody students going to France in June.

How did it all start?
In spring 2015, after researching partner schools in Charlottesville for College Vauban, a French middle school with an International Section (with a partial English immersion curriculum ), contacted Maryline Meyer, as Peabody school seemed to a perfect match for them. Madame Meyer was thrilled right away and we planned on starting the project for the next school year! With dynamic teams on both sides, we quickly started monthly Skype exchanges between the classes and one of the teachers even visited Peabody in October 2015.

A sustainable and unique partnership.
What is best to learn a language than making friends with native speakers? Our French and American students take part in authentic communication situations. Over the years they have exchanged through varied activities (mainly games alternating between both languages) via Skype as a class, they have also sent each other postcards and emails, and have shared videos on Seesaw. We’re always looking at ways to improve, and now the students are more and more involved in creating the Skype activities because we want this project to be theirs. We’re also planning on organizing one-on-one chats in class so as to maximize their individual time using the target language, and some of them have already taken the initiative to communicate individually. We are in constant contact with our French colleagues to prepare the activities, and especially this year, to prepare the students’ trips! As of now, this program has benefited the current Grade 8 (starting in grade 6) and we hope to be able to extend it to more French classes.

Bienvenue les belfortains!
Our French friends from Belfort will be with us from April 9 th to the 23 rd. They will be attending our school with their hosting students and also go on excursions such as Monticello and Washington DC. They will live two intense unforgettable weeks and we hope you will have a chance to meet them. Thank you so much again to the host families for being part of this wonderful experience. We are all so excited to welcome them very soon!
Peabody Spring Enrichment Session

Registration for our Spring Enrichment Classes is now open. We have many exciting offerings for the upcoming session! Registration closes on March 26th!

WestCity Soccer Registration is open for the spring session as well. The first day of the spring session is April 9th!
Second Trimester Lower School Report Cards

All report cards for students in grades K-5 were sent home via email today. PreK report cards are located in each student's backpack. Please contact your child's teacher with any questions you may have.
Mr. Chain's Raspberry Pi Camp

The goal of the Peabody Raspberry Pi Summer Camp is to get someone over the initial hurdles and become self sufficient for their electronics projects in the future. A Raspberry Pi is a credit card sized computer that is a powerful learning tool for coding and electronics. If your student is interested in learning about robotics, coding, and circuitry and wants to learn real world coding and applications, this is the perfect summer camp for them.

Neighbors 4 Neighbors Food Drive

The Neighbors 4 Neighbors school food drive will begin on Monday, March 5! Peabody is once again participating in the annual community and school wide food drive entitled the Neighbors 4 Neighbors School Food Drive. All donations will be given to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Donation barrels can be found at the front entrance of the school and the Batten building. Donations will be accepted through Friday, March 23rd.

We would like to have every student participate in our food drive. Last year Peabody collected 443 pounds of food and earned 2nd place out of the area K-8 schools!  Let’s see if we can surpass that this year!

Peabody Alumnus wins Science Fair

Anders Knospe, Peabody graduate of the class of 2015, was a Grand Award winner at the 37th annual Virginia Piedmont Regional Science Fair. He will now attend the International Science and Engineering Fair to present his project entitled, “Revealing Unseen Motion: Eulerian Magnification Applied to Live Video." Congratulations Anders and Good Luck!
Peabody School Jump Rope for Heart 2018

Parents, we are excited to kick off Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart! Your student is becoming a Heart Hero by taking care of their own heart, spreading the message of the American Heart Association and raising funds for lifesaving research. Have your student jump online at heart.org/jump or heart.org/hoops to take one of our three health challenges, send emails and ask for donations. The fundraiser event will run from Monday, March 5th until Friday, March 30th.

PPF News

We want to extend a great big THANK YOU to all the Game Masters and everyone else that came out to help with set up and clean up at Game Night! It’s such a fun event and it definitely wouldn’t be possible without all your help. Thank you so much !  

Our next PPF meeting is March 28th at 8:15 in the Middle School conference room on the 2nd floor. We are going to start planning for this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week and next year’s Peabody Family Fun Run. All parents are welcome to join us. We hope to see you there !

  • Renaissance School’s summer classes are now open to rising 7th-12th grade students in the Charlottesville area!  Summer classes at Renaissance School are a great way to earn high school credit in a small and supportive environment. Summer classes for high school credit include Geometry, Algebra 2, and Darkroom Photography. Students can also participate in an intensive one-week SAT Math boot camp or learn the art of Screen Printing! For more than 18 years, Renaissance School has enriched students through an interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Considering Renaissance School for your college prep high school?  Summer classes are a great way to experience our engaging teachers and small classes with lots of focused attention.   • We are continuing to collect broken and unwanted crayons for recycling with the Crayon Initiative and dried out markers to recycle with Crayola. Collections can be placed in the box by the main entrance. Please, crayons and markers only--no colored pencils, paints or oil pastels.

  • Albemarle High School visitation day is on Tuesday, March 27th. This day invites interested students to come visit AHS from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. Counselors will hold an information meeting for parents/guardians at 1pm. Families that are interested should contact Sheena Washington in the AHS School Counseling office at 434-974-4321 or by email at [email protected] to sign up. Due to the fact that students will need to be assigned to a group, they will need parents to RSVP no later than March 20th.
