Four students from Douglas County will head to Berry College in Rome, GA, for four weeks this summer to follow their passion. The students were selected for the Governor's Honors Program (GHP) in a highly competitive process.
Najaah Patterson, pictured on left, is an 11th grade student at Chapel Hill High School. She will study Dance at GHP. Following high school, she hopes to attend the Juilliard School, a performing arts conservatory in New York. "I feel like GHP will be an incredible learning experience and will allow me to be with people who are just as passionate as I am in the art of dance."
Roxy Bridges, center, is a 10th grade student at New Manchester High School who will attend GHP to study Visual Arts. She plans to attend a fine arts college after high school. "I look forward to spending time with others who are passionate about the same things I'm passionate about."
Jabari Lawrence, an 11th grade student at Alexander High School, will study Chemistry at GHP. His top three college choices at this point are Olin College of Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Georgia Institute of Technology. "I would like to go above and beyond the brief classes in high school and be able to explore subjects that interest me. I look forward to participating in the unique opportunities available at GHP."
Not pictured is Sarah Khan, 11th grade student at Douglas County High School. Sarah was selected to study Social Studies at GHP. Amarion Peterkin-Trent from Douglas County High School was selected as an alternate to study Music at GHP this summer.
The Georgia Governor's Honors Program offers talented juniors and seniors a residential program with instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
